1) Will the Houzer CTB-3285 trough sink fit a 36 inch base cabinet?
A 36 inch base cabinet is the minimum for the CTB-3285. The sink measures 32 x 8-1/2 x 6 inches overall, so a 36 inch cabinet leaves room for the rim to land on the cabinet framing rather than over the opening. Anything narrower than 36 inches will not take it.
2) How narrow is the bowl on a Houzer Contempo Trough bar sink, and will a dinner plate fit in it?
The bowl is 30 inches long but only 6-1/2 inches wide and 6 inches deep. That is a trough, not a wash-up bowl. A standard dinner plate laid flat will not fit. It is built for a bar or prep run where you want length along the counter for bottles, glasses, produce and ice rather than depth for pots.
3) What drain and disposal size does the Houzer CTB-3285 take?
Standard 3-1/2 inch drain opening, located at the center of the trough. That is the common size for a garbage disposal flange or a basket strainer, and a basket strainer (190-9180) ships with the sink. Center drain placement means the tailpiece drops in the middle of the 36 inch cabinet, not off to one side.
4) Can the Houzer CTB-3285 be undermounted to a laminate or wood countertop?
It is an undermount sink, which means it needs a countertop that can be cut and finished on the exposed edge and can carry the sink from below. Stone, quartz and solid surface are what that describes. Laminate over particleboard exposes a raw edge at the cutout and is not the right substrate for an undermount installation. Mounting clips and a cutting template are in the box.
5) Does the Houzer CTB-3285 come with a faucet or any deck holes drilled?
No faucet, and no deck holes. Undermount sinks mount below the counter, so the faucet is drilled into the countertop or the wall behind, and you specify the hole count and spread with the countertop fabricator. What comes in the box is the sink, the basket strainer, the bottom grid (BG-1208), mounting clips and a template.
6) Should I use a trough sink or a standard single bowl bar sink for an island wet bar?
A trough like the CTB-3285 runs 30 inches of usable bowl at only 6-1/2 inches wide, so it eats almost no cabinet depth and leaves counter on both sides of a narrow island. A conventional bar sink is squarer, maybe 15 by 15, and gives you room to submerge a shaker or a stack of glasses but consumes the middle of the cabinet. Pick the trough when the run is long and shallow, or when you want to set the sink into a bar top that is too narrow for a square bowl. Pick a square bar bowl when things need to soak.
7) Does the Houzer CTB-3285 need a bottom grid ordered separately?
No, the bottom grid ships with it. Houzer includes the BG-1208 grid plus the 190-9180 basket strainer, so the sink arrives complete for install apart from the trap, tailpiece and faucet. The grid matters on a 6 inch deep trough because it holds glassware off the base and keeps the satin finish from taking the abrasion.
8) How much counter length do I need to plan for a Houzer 32 inch trough sink cutout?
Plan the run around a 32 inch overall sink body, 8-1/2 inches front to back and 6 inches deep. The cutout itself is smaller than the outer dimension on an undermount, and Houzer supplies a template to mark it, which is what your fabricator should be cutting from. Behind that, allow the 36 inch minimum cabinet.
9) Will condensation from the Houzer CTB-3285 damage the cabinet underneath?
The underside is treated with StoneGuard undercoating over Super Silencer rubber pads, which is there to stop the bowl from sweating onto the cabinet floor and to deaden the noise of glassware. On a bar run under an insulated counter that is the detail that keeps the base cabinet dry.
