1) Will the Houzer M-175U fit a 36 inch sink base cabinet?
A 36 inch cabinet is the minimum for the M-175U. The sink measures 33 x 20-1/2 x 9-1/2 inches overall, so a 36 inch base leaves room for the undermount reveal and the clips on each side. Do not try to force it into a 33 inch base.
2) Can a granite composite sink like the Houzer M-175U be undermounted to a laminate countertop?
The M-175U is built as an undermount only, so it needs a solid-surface top that can be edge-finished and carry the sink's weight, such as granite, quartz or solid surface. Standard laminate has a particleboard core with an exposed edge at the cutout and is not a mounting surface for this sink. If the job has laminate tops, you want a drop-in or topmount sink instead.
3) Does the Houzer M-175U take a standard garbage disposal?
Yes. Both bowls use a 3-1/2 inch drain opening, which is the standard size for a disposal mounting flange and for a basket strainer. The drains sit at the rear of each bowl, which keeps the trap arm back and frees up usable cabinet space underneath.
4) What comes in the box with the Houzer M-175U, and what do I still need to buy?
Mounting clips, a cutting template and installation instructions ship with the sink. Strainers and grids do not. Houzer lists the basket strainer 190-9180, bottom grids 629805 and 629806, and the CB-4100 cutting board as the matching accessories. You will also supply the drain assembly or disposal, the faucet, and the silicone and epoxy the fabricator uses to set it.
5) Is granite composite tough enough for a rental or multi-family kitchen?
Quartztone is 80 percent quartz sand, non-porous, and rated to resist heat up to 500 degrees F along with fading, chipping and scratching. Non-porous matters most in turnover units, since the surface does not absorb stains from coffee or tomato and cleans with soap and water. The matte colors also hide water spotting better than a polished stainless bowl.
6) Is the Houzer M-175U reversible, or is the large bowl fixed on one side?
The large bowl is fixed. On the M-175U the 18-1/8 inch bowl is the left basin and the 16-1/8 inch bowl is the right, so the sink is not reversible. Note it on the template drawing before the countertop is cut, since a 60/40 set the wrong way changes where the disposal and dishwasher drain land.
7) What colors does the Houzer M-175U Quartztone sink come in?
Five matte granite composite colors: Cloud, Sand, Mocha, Midnite and Slate. All five are the same M-175U body and dimensions, so the color choice does not change the cutout or the cabinet requirement. Order by the suffix, for example M-175U-MIDNITE.
