1) What size cabinet do I need for the Houzer M-175 33-inch double bowl sink?
The M-175 needs a 36 inch minimum base cabinet. The sink itself measures 33 x 22 x 9-1/2 inches overall, so a 33 inch cabinet will not take it once you account for the cutout and the rim. If you are working with a 30 or 33 inch base, you need a smaller sink.
2) Is the Houzer M-175 a drop-in or an undermount sink?
Drop-in topmount. The rim sits on top of the counter, so it works on laminate, tile, or solid surface tops where an undermount is not an option, and the counter does not need a polished cutout edge. Mounting clips and hardware come with it, along with a template and instructions.
3) How many faucet holes does the Houzer M-175 have, and can I use a single-hole faucet?
Four pre-scored holes. Pre-scored means they are not punched through at the factory, so you knock out only the ones you need. A single-hole faucet, you open one. A widespread faucet with a sprayer and soap dispenser, you open up to all four. That decision is made at install, not at order.
4) Will a standard garbage disposal fit the Houzer M-175 drain?
The drain openings are 3-1/2 inches, which is the standard US kitchen sink opening, so a standard disposal mount and a standard basket strainer both fit. Drains are positioned at the rear of each bowl, which keeps more usable cabinet space underneath and gives you a bit more room over the trap arm.
5) Does the Houzer M-175 come with a strainer and grids, or do I order those separately?
Separately. The sink ships with mounting clips, a template and instructions, but the basket strainer (190-9180), bottom grids (629805 and 629806) and cutting board (CB-4100) are optional accessories. If you are outfitting units and want the bowls protected, budget the grids in as a line item. Note there are two grid numbers because the bowls are different widths.
6) Can the Houzer M-175 replace an existing 33 inch drop-in double bowl sink?
In most cases yes, if the old sink was a 33 x 22 inch topmount in a 36 inch base. The M-175 uses the same 33 x 22 footprint and the same 3-1/2 inch drain openings, so the countertop cutout and the existing tailpieces usually carry over. Measure the old cutout first, since topmount rims vary slightly between makers and the rim has to cover it.
7) What are the actual bowl sizes on the Houzer M-175 60/40 sink?
The larger left bowl measures 14-9/16 x 18-1/8 x 9-1/2 inches and the smaller right bowl is 14-9/16 x 16-1/8 x 9-1/2 inches. Both are the same 9-1/2 inch depth, so a sheet pan or a stock pot lays flat in either one. The 60/40 split gives you a prep bowl and a stacking bowl rather than two equal halves.
8) Is granite composite a better choice than stainless for a rental or high-traffic kitchen?
Granite composite behaves differently than stainless. The Quartztone material is 80 percent quartz sand, non-porous so it does not stain, and rated heat resistant to 500 degrees F. It will not dent or show water spots the way a thin stainless bowl does, and it is quieter under running water. Stainless still wins if a tenant is likely to drop cast iron in it. Color holds up too, since the material is UV stable.
