1) How many faucet holes does the Houzer M-300 granite composite sink have, and can I add a soap dispenser or air switch?
The M-300 ships with 1 hole already drilled and 4 more pre-scored. You knock out only what the job needs, so a single-hole faucet leaves a clean deck, and a widespread with sprayer, soap dispenser, air switch and filtered water tap can all be opened up on site. That means one sink covers several faucet configurations across a building without ordering different deck versions.
2) Will a standard garbage disposal and basket strainer fit the Houzer M-300 drain?
Both bowls use a 3-1/2 inch drain opening, which is the standard US kitchen sink size, so a normal basket strainer or a disposal mounting flange drops straight in. Houzer lists basket strainer 190-9180 as the matching accessory. Drains sit at the rear of each bowl, which keeps more usable shelf space under the deck for the trap and disposal.
3) Is the Houzer M-300 a drop-in sink or does it need an undermount cutout?
Topmount, drop-in. The M-300 sets into the cutout from above and its rim carries the weight on the countertop, so it works on laminate and butcher block where an undermount cannot be used. Mounting clips, a template and instructions are in the box. If your counter is stone with a polished undermount reveal already cut, this sink is not the part you want.
4) What colors does the Houzer M-300 Quartztone sink come in?
Five matte granite composite colors: Cloud, Sand, Mocha, Midnite and Slate. They order as M-300-CLOUD, M-300-SAND, M-300-MOCHA, M-300-MIDNITE and M-300-SLATE. For a property manager repeating a spec across units, that part number suffix is what keeps the color consistent unit to unit, since the base M-300 number alone does not pin the color.
5) Is granite composite or stainless steel the better choice for a rental kitchen sink?
Granite composite like the Houzer Quartztone is 80 percent quartz sand, non-porous, and takes heat to 500 degrees F without fading or staining, so it hides water spots and scratches better than a thin-gauge stainless bowl in a high-turnover unit. It is also color-stable under UV. Stainless is the alternative when tenants are hard on a sink with cast iron cookware, since a dent in stainless is cosmetic where a composite chip is not repairable. For a unit that gets repainted between tenants and needs to still look new, composite holds up on appearance.
6) What accessories do I need to order with the Houzer M-300 to finish the install?
Mounting clips, the cutout template and instructions come in the box, so the sink itself is complete. What is not included and has to be ordered separately: basket strainer 190-9180, bottom grid 629807 to protect the basin floor, and cutting board CB-4100. On a rental or commercial kitchen the bottom grids are worth adding per sink, since they take the abuse instead of the composite surface. Faucet, drain tailpiece and trap are also separate.
7) Can I pour boiling water or set a hot pan in a Houzer Quartztone composite sink?
Quartztone handles up to 500 degrees F, so draining a pot of pasta water or setting a hot pan down in the bowl will not mark it. The material is also rated for thermal shock, meaning hot then cold in quick succession is not a problem. The surface is non-porous, so coffee, wine and tomato do not stain into it.
8) Is there an installation template and instructions for cutting the countertop for the Houzer M-300?
Yes, a cutting template and written instructions ship with the sink, and Houzer publishes granite sink installation instructions as a separate document. Cut to the template rather than to the 33 x 22 inch overall size, since the rim has to land on the counter and the cutout is smaller than the sink.
