1) What size cabinet do I need for the Houzer PTG-3600 farmhouse sink?
Plan on a 39 inch sink base minimum for the PTG-3600. The sink itself measures 36 x 20 x 10-1/8 inches overall, and as an apron front it needs the cabinet face cut away so the apron sits proud. A 36 inch base will not take it.
2) What drain and disposer will fit the Houzer PTG-3600 fireclay sink?
The drain opening is the standard 3-1/2 inch kitchen size, so any standard 3-1/2 inch basket strainer or a garbage disposer mounting flange will fit. The drain sits at the rear of the bowl, which keeps more usable cabinet space under the front of the base and leaves the tailpiece back near the wall.
3) Does the Houzer PTG-3600 come with a strainer and bottom grid, or do I order those separately?
Both ways. The PTG-3600 is sold either as sink only or as a kit with the basket strainer and basin grid included. The kit versions carry a -C on the end of the part number: PTG-3600-WH-C in gloss white and PTG-3600-BQ-C in gloss biscuit. Drop the -C and you get the bare sink. The bundled accessories are the 190-9180 basket strainer and the BG-7800 bottom grid.
4) Does the Houzer PTG-3600 include mounting hardware or clips?
No mounting hardware ships with it. A fireclay apron front sink of this weight is carried by a support platform or cleats built into the sink base, sized to bring the rim to the right height against the countertop. Build that support into your cabinet work. Installation instructions are included with the sink.
5) Is fireclay tough enough for a rental or a busy commercial kitchenette?
The Platus PTG-3600 is 100 percent fireclay fired over 20 hours at 2200 degrees F, giving a non-porous glazed surface that resists staining, discoloration, chipping and scratching. Unlike stainless it will not show water spots or scratch patterns, and unlike composite it will not absorb color from coffee or wine. The trade-off with any fireclay is that it is rigid ceramic, so a dropped cast iron pan is harder on it than on a stainless bowl. The included bottom grid helps with that.
6) How much clearance do I lose under the counter with a 10-1/8 inch deep apron sink?
Exterior depth on the PTG-3600 is 10-1/8 inches with a 9-1/4 inch interior bowl, so roughly an inch of that is the base of the sink. Measure from the underside of your countertop down and confirm the drain, trap and any disposer clear the cabinet floor and the waste arm in the wall. Rear drain placement helps here, since it keeps the trap assembly toward the back rather than in the middle of your storage.
7) What colors does the Houzer Platus PTG-3600 come in?
Two glazes: gloss white (PTG-3600-WH) and gloss biscuit (PTG-3600-BQ). Both are available either as sink only or bundled with the strainer and grid. If you are matching existing fireclay on other units in a building, biscuit is the warmer off-white and white is the neutral.
