1) What Adams Rite locks does the Keedex K-BXA/R lock box fit?
The K-BXA/R weldable lock box is cut for Adams Rite 1850s and 1851s series deadlocks and the 4511, 4710 and 4711 series latches. It gives those mortise-type locks a pocket to sit in when you are mounting to a gate, frame or tube where there is no existing mortise pocket.
2) How much room do I need in my gate frame or tube for this Keedex lock box?
Plan for a pocket at least 2-7/16 inches wide and 1-13/16 inches deep, with 7 inches of height for the narrow mortise version or 8 inches for the mortise version. On square tube gate frames that depth is the number that usually decides it, so measure the inside of the tube before you cut.
3) Is the Keedex K-BXA/R box strong enough for a commercial gate that gets constant use?
It is formed from 14 gauge steel and is a commercial-rated part, which is what you want for a weld-in gate application where the box carries the lock and takes the abuse of the gate slamming. Heavier than the sheet steel used on light residential boxes.
4) Does the Keedex lock box come with the Adams Rite lock or the cylinder?
No. The K-BXA/R is the steel enclosure only. You supply the Adams Rite 1850s/1851s deadlock or 4511/4710/4711 latch, the cylinder, the strike and any paint or finish, since the box ships as bare steel.
5) Can I use this box on an aluminum storefront door instead of a gate?
It is built as a weld-in enclosure for gates and steel tube frames, not as a replacement for the lock pocket in an aluminum stile. On a storefront door the Adams Rite case mortises straight into the stile and no box is needed. Use the K-BXA/R where there is no existing pocket, such as fence gates and fabricated steel frames.
