Keedex K-BXCL500 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the Keedex K-BXCL500 gate box actually for?
It's a weld-on or mount-on steel enclosure that houses a Codelock 500 mechanical pushbutton lock on a gate or a hollow-frame opening where there is no door stile to mortise into. The box gives the lock a solid mounting surface and a 2-3/4 inch backset behind the face, so the lock sits where it would on a normal door. It is a commercial-duty part, built from 14 gauge steel in the standard version.
2) Does the K-BXCL500 gate box work with any pushbutton lock, or only the Codelock 500?
It's cut for the Codelock 500 specifically. The face prep and the 2-3/4 inch backset match that lock, so a different mechanical pushbutton lock with another backset or hole pattern won't drop in. If you're mounting a different make of lock on a gate, you need the Keedex gate box prepped for that lock instead.
3) Should I get the steel or the aluminum Keedex gate box?
Two materials are offered: 14 gauge steel and .125 gauge aluminum. Steel is the one you weld to a steel tube gate and then paint or powder coat. Aluminum is for aluminum gates and picket work where you don't want dissimilar metals and where corrosion at the coast is a concern; it gets fastened or welded with aluminum process, not stick-welded to steel. Match the box to the gate material and your fabricator's process.
4) Do I need to order the Codelock 500 lock separately from the Keedex box?
Yes. The K-BXCL500 is the enclosure only. The Codelock 500 lock itself, plus the strike or keeper on the receiving post, are separate purchases. Plan the order as box, lock, and strike together so the gate finishes in one trip.
