1) Can this PVC sweep be direct buried or encased in concrete?
Yes. The Kraloy Schedule 40 sweep is approved for exposed, concrete encased and direct burial use, which is why it shows up on street and highway lighting, bridge, tunnel and utility duct runs.
2) How do the ends connect, do I need a coupling or glue?
Both ends are plain socket ends made for nonmetallic solvent weld fittings, so you cement the conduit straight into the sweep with PVC conduit cement. No threading, no couplings required at the sweep itself.
3) Is this Kraloy sweep UL listed for electrical conduit?
It is built to UL 651, the standard covering Schedule 40 and 80 rigid PVC conduit and fittings, and is NAFTA compliant.
4) Why choose a 24 inch radius sweep instead of a standard 90 degree elbow?
A 24 inch radius sweep gives a long, gentle bend so cable can be pulled through without excessive sidewall pressure, which matters on long feeder and duct bank runs, parking garage and highway lighting work. A standard short radius 90 elbow is fine for small conductors and tight rough-in, but for large pulled cable the wide sweep is what you want. Kraloy offers this one in 2, 3 and 4 inch trade sizes.
5) Is this sweep suitable for corrosive or wet environments like water treatment plants and car washes?
Yes, that is a normal use for it. Rigid nonmetallic PVC does not rust, and Kraloy lists car washes, water and sewage treatment plants, food processing and fish plants, marinas, pulp and paper, steel mills and mines among the applications.
