Kraloy 68769 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What trade sizes does the Kraloy Schedule 40 PVC 90 degree sweep come in?
Two trade sizes: 4 inch (part 68769) and 5 inch (part 68771). Both are 90 degree sweeps with a 36 inch radius and solvent weld socket ends on each side.
2) Can this PVC sweep be direct buried or encased in concrete?
Yes. The Kraloy/Scepter Schedule 40 sweep is approved for exposed, concrete encased and direct burial use, which covers the typical duct bank, parking garage and roadway lighting runs it gets specified for.
3) Do I need glue for this sweep, or does it thread into the conduit?
It is solvent weld only. Both ends are plain socket ends for use with nonmetallic solvent weld fittings and Schedule 40 PVC conduit, so you will need PVC cement and cleaner on site. There are no threads and no gasketed bells.
4) Will this sweep glue to Schedule 80 PVC conduit?
The socket is sized to trade size, so a 4 inch Schedule 80 conduit has the same outside diameter as 4 inch Schedule 40 and will solvent weld into it. The sweep body itself is Schedule 40 wall, so if your spec calls for Schedule 80 through the bend, for example an exposed riser subject to physical damage, use a Schedule 80 sweep instead.
5) Is a PVC sweep acceptable in a corrosive environment like a wastewater plant or car wash?
Yes, that is a common use for it. Kraloy lists water and sewage treatment plants, car washes, marinas, fish and food processing plants, pulp and paper, mines and steel mills among the applications, which are exactly the wet or chemically aggressive locations where PVC gets chosen over steel conduit.
6) Does this sweep come with couplings or cement?
No. What you receive is the sweep itself, a 90 degree bend with plain solvent weld sockets on both ends. Couplings, straight conduit, PVC cement and primer are separate items on your order.
