LARSEN-LOC® OPTION

All door styles are available with the exclusive Larsen-Loc® — an emergency-access mechanism that allows the cabinet door to be opened by pulling sharply on the handle, without breaking glass. A factory-applied decal reads: "IN CASE OF FIRE ONLY – PULL FIRMLY ON HANDLE." The Larsen-Loc® is compatible with every door style, including solid metal doors, making it suitable for gymnasiums and institutional settings where glazing is not appropriate. The Solid Door with Larsen-Loc® can also be specified as an Institutional Door (key-only emergency access) by deleting the pull handle and decal.

VIGILANTE ALARM OPTION

Larsen's exclusive Vigilante Alarm provides additional protection for the cabinet's life safety contents. Constructed of high-impact plastic, plunger-activated, and powered by a heavy-duty 9V battery (included). The on/off jack allows authorized personnel to service the cabinet's contents without triggering the alarm. Helps reduce theft losses, prolong extinguisher life, and safeguard fire department valves, hose, and other equipment.

1) What wall depth do I specify when ordering a recessed Larsens 2409 extinguisher cabinet?
Wall depth is a build choice on the 2409: 2 inch, 2-1/2, 3, 4, 5, 6-1/4, or 6-1/2 inch, plus a surface mounted version for walls you cannot cut into. The box is 6 inches deep inside, so the 6-1/4 and 6-1/2 inch options bury it in the wall and the door face finishes flush. Pick a shallower depth and the cabinet runs semi-recessed, standing proud of the wall by roughly the difference: about 4 inches of box out in the room on the 2 inch option, about 1 inch on the 5 inch option. Measure the actual cavity depth of your partition, not the stud size, before you pick.
2) Is the Larsens 2409 fire rated, and can I recess it into a fire-rated wall?
Non-fire-rated. On a standard partition or a surface mount that is not an issue, but cutting a non-rated cabinet into a rated wall assembly breaks the rating of that wall, so it is the wrong box for a rated corridor, stair enclosure, or shaft wall. Larsens designates its fire-rated construction with the FS suffix, and that is the version to specify where the assembly has to hold its rating. If the cabinet is going on a non-rated wall or the drawings do not call out a rated assembly at that location, the 2409 as built is fine.
3) How high do I mount the Larsens 2409 cabinet to stay ADA compliant?
Leading edge at or below 27 inches from finished floor. That is the mounting condition for the 2409 to comply with ADA wall projection guidelines, and it is what matters on any build that leaves the box out in the circulation path, so surface mounted and the shallower semi-recessed wall depths. Order it fully recessed into a 6-1/4 or 6-1/2 inch wall and the door finishes in the wall plane with nothing projecting, so the 27 inch ceiling stops driving the mounting height.
4) Is the entire Larsens 2409 cabinet stainless steel, or only the door?
Depends on how you mount it. Door and trim are always one-piece 304 stainless with a #4 finish, hollow metal tubular construction. Order it surface mounted and the box is 304 stainless with a #4 finish too, the whole enclosure. Order it recessed or semi-recessed and the box buried in the wall is heavy-gauge white baked enamel steel, not stainless, with only the visible door and trim in stainless. For a wash-down room, a coastal or exterior-adjacent location, or a kitchen where the box itself takes moisture, specify the surface mounted stainless build.
5) Which door style should I order for a school gym or another building where glass in the door is a problem?
Go solid. The 2409 comes in full glass, horizontal duo, vertical duo, and solid, and the solid metal door is the one Larsens points at for gymnasiums and institutional settings where glazing is not appropriate. It still takes the Larsen-Loc emergency release, so the extinguisher stays reachable in a fire without a key and without anything to break. Full glass is the opposite end, the clearest sightline to the extinguisher and its gauge for monthly walk-through inspections. Horizontal duo and vertical duo are the other two faces offered.
6) How does someone get the extinguisher out of a Larsens cabinet in a fire without breaking the glass?
