Leviton 5601-2T – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the Leviton 5601-2T rocker switch be used on a 277V lighting circuit, or is it 120V only?
It is rated 120/277V AC at 15 amps, so it works on both standard 120V residential branch circuits and 277V lighting circuits. That dual rating is why the same switch shows up on commercial lighting runs as well as house wiring.
2) Is this Leviton Decora switch single pole or three way?
Single pole. It controls a light from one location only. If you need two switch locations on the same fixture, a 1-pole device will not do it, you need a 3-way pair instead.
3) Is the Leviton 5601 rocker switch heavy duty enough for an apartment building or office?
It is built to Residential Grade, which is the lightest of the device grades. For apartment common areas, offices, schools or anything with heavy daily switching, spec a Commercial or Specification Grade device instead. For in-unit lighting and single family work, residential grade is the normal choice.
4) Can I put this 15A Leviton switch on a 20 amp circuit?
The switch is rated 15 amps, so it should not be used to switch a load on a circuit protected above its rating. On a 20A branch circuit you want a 20A rated switch. The 15A device is matched to 15A lighting circuits.
5) What is the difference between the 2T and 2I configurations of this Leviton Decora rocker switch?
Two configurations are offered: the 5601-2T and the 5604-2I. Order by the full part number, since the suffix is how the two are distinguished on the shelf and at the counter.
6) Will a standard Decora wall plate fit this Leviton rocker switch?
Yes. It uses the Decora rocker body, so it takes a standard Decora/GFCI-opening wall plate rather than a toggle plate. Plates are ordered separately.
7) What color is the Leviton 5601-2T switch, and will it match my existing almond devices?
The finish is Light Almond. Light Almond and Almond are two different Leviton colors and they do not match side by side on the same wall, so check which one your existing receptacles and plates are before mixing them.
8) Does this Leviton AC quiet switch work with LED and CFL lighting?
It is a plain on/off AC switch, not a dimmer, so it simply makes and breaks the circuit and works with LED, CFL, or incandescent fixtures within its 15A, 120/277V rating. If you want to dim the lights, you need a dimmer rated for your specific LED load, not this switch.
