Medeco Bilevel Standard 6-Pin Mortise Cylinder, 1-1/8" to 1-3/4", Straight Cam, DL Keyway — UL 437 High-Security

The Medeco Bilevel Standard 6-Pin Mortise Cylinder is a UL 437 Listed, high-security cylinder engineered for commercial, institutional, and government applications demanding superior key control and attack resistance. Built with utility-patented Medeco 4 (M4) BiLevel technology, this brass cylinder accommodates a length range of 1-1/8" to 1-3/4" and features a straight cam configuration with a DL keyway and 6-pin tumbler system. Its external threads allow direct installation into standard mortise lock housings from other manufacturers, making it an ideal retrofit upgrade without replacing existing hardware.

Key Features

  • Length Range: Accommodates 1-1/8" to 1-3/4" cylinder lengths, providing flexible compatibility with a wide range of standard mortise lock housings.
  • 6-Pin DL Keyway Configuration: Features a 6-pin tumbler system with DL keyway for enhanced key complexity and superior pick resistance.
  • Patented M4 BiLevel Key Control: Medeco 4 (M4) BiLevel technology ensures keys can only be duplicated by authorized dealers, providing strict, verifiable key control for high-security environments.
  • UL 437 Listed Security: Certified against drilling, picking, and pulling attacks, meeting the highest standards for physical attack resistance.
  • Sidebar Locking Mechanism: Keys must be elevated, rotated, and properly aligned before the lock can be turned, delivering superior protection against picking and bumping.
  • Special Angle-Cut Keys: Requires proprietary key cutting machines and blanks, significantly increasing protection against unauthorized key duplication.
  • Seamless Retrofit Installation: External threads screw directly into standard mortise lock cylinder housings; a cam on the back engages the internal lock mechanism and is secured with a set screw — no replacement of existing hardware required.
  • Master Keying Compatibility: Can be master keyed into M4 BiLevel, CLIQ, or legacy Medeco systems for flexible access control hierarchy.
  • Heavy-Duty Brass Construction: Manufactured from brass for long-term durability and corrosion resistance in demanding commercial applications.

Medeco MED-100200J-26-DLT – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will a Medeco 100200J mortise cylinder screw into my existing mortise lock, or do I have to replace the lock?
It threads into the existing housing. The 100200J Bilevel mortise cylinder uses standard external mortise cylinder threads, so it screws directly into standard mortise lock housings from other manufacturers. A cam on the back engages the lock's internal mechanism and a set screw holds the cylinder in place. That makes it a straight high-security upgrade on doors where the lock body itself is fine and only the key control needs to change.
2) What length Medeco mortise cylinder do I need, and what lengths does the 100200J come in?
Six lengths are made: 1-1/8, 1-1/4, 1-3/8, 1-1/2, 1-5/8 and 1-3/4 inches. Length is driven by door thickness plus any trim or armor plate stacked on the face, so measure from the face of the lock front to the outside of the trim. 1-1/8 inch is the common length on a standard 1-3/4 inch door with no added trim; thicker doors and applied plates push you up the range. Order the length that lets the cam sit flush against the lock case, not one that leaves the cylinder standing proud.
3) Can Medeco Bilevel cylinders be master keyed into a building's existing Medeco system?
Yes. Bilevel cylinders can be master keyed into M4 BiLevel, CLIQ, or legacy Medeco systems, so a facility already running Medeco can add openings without starting a new keying hierarchy. Order Keyed Alike when a group of doors shares one key, Keyed Different for independent openings, or Key Code when the cylinder has to be cut to a specific code already in the system records.
4) Can a hardware store copy a Medeco Bilevel key?
No, and that is the point of the product. The M4 BiLevel platform is utility patented, so blanks are restricted and keys can only be duplicated by authorized dealers. The keys are angle cut and require proprietary cutting machines, which is why a corner shop cannot produce one. For a property manager fighting unauthorized copies in a multi-tenant building, or a facility where a lost key means a rekey, that key control is the reason to spend on the cylinder.
5) Does the Medeco 100200J meet a spec calling for a UL 437 high security cylinder?
It does. The Bilevel mortise cylinder is UL 437 Listed, certified against drilling, picking and pulling attacks, and it is BHMA Grade 1, Heavy Duty. That combination is what most government, healthcare and campus specifications ask for when they write high security cylinders into the hardware schedule.
6) What does the DL keyway mean when ordering a Medeco 6-pin mortise cylinder?
DL is the keyway family the cylinder is cut for, paired with a 6-pin tumbler stack. Every cylinder you add to the same system has to share the keyway for one key to operate them, so if the building is already on DL, stay on DL. The 6-pin count is what gives the system enough differs and master key levels to cover a large facility.
7) What is the difference between Pinned, Sub-Assembled, and Sub-Assembled No Slider on a Medeco cylinder order?
Those are the three build states offered. Pinned means the cylinder arrives keyed and ready to install. Sub-assembled ships without final pinning so an authorized locksmith or an in-house shop with Medeco tooling can key it to the site's system, and the no-slider version leaves out the slider for shops doing their own build. If you do not run a keying bench, order Pinned.
8) How does a Bilevel Medeco cylinder resist picking and bumping compared to a standard pin tumbler?
A standard pin tumbler only needs the pins set to the shear line. This cylinder adds a sidebar: the key has to elevate the pins, rotate them, and align them correctly before the plug will turn. Three conditions instead of one is why bumping and conventional picking do not open it, and why it carries the UL 437 Listing.
9) Will a Medeco Bilevel mortise cylinder match the finish on the rest of my door hardware?
Thirteen finishes are made, so it can be matched to most existing schedules: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 609 antique brass, 611 bright bronze, 612 satin bronze, 613 dark bronze oil-rubbed, 624 dark bronze, 618 bright nickel, 619 satin nickel, 20 antique nickel, 622 flat black, 625 bright chrome and 626 satin chrome. On commercial openings the two you will hit most are 626 satin chrome and 613 oil-rubbed bronze. Match the number, not the description, since finish names vary between manufacturers.
10) Is a brass Medeco mortise cylinder alright on an exterior storefront or entry door?
Brass is the substrate, chosen for corrosion resistance and long service on commercial openings, and the cylinder is rated Heavy Duty for commercial use. Retail storefronts and multi-tenant entries are among its intended applications. On a coastal or heavily weathered opening, a plated finish such as 626 satin chrome holds up better cosmetically than a bright brass.

Key control for my old mortise locks at a good price

Posted by Eddie Lee on Sep 21st 2024

I wanted key control for the vintage mortise locks on my 1896 duplex. I did not want my tenants making copies of their keys at the hardware store. These lock cylinders allowed me to save the vintage mortise locks that are original to the house and realize the key control and excellent quality associated with Medeco. Zen Supply was significantly less expensive than what the locksmiths in town were asking for these locks.
