The Medeco Intelligent Key Cabinet comes in 32-port and 64-port sizes. A 32-port cabinet is ordered as either all-XT or all-iFob, so you pick one type up front. The 64-port cabinet is the one that mixes: it can be all-XT, all-iFob, or split 32 XT plus 32 iFob. If you run electronic XT keys on some doors and conventional keys on the rest, order the 64-port hybrid rather than trying to combine two 32-port cabinets.
2) What do I have to specify when ordering a Medeco Intelligent Key Cabinet?
Four choices settle the order. Configuration: XT or iFob. Port count: 32 or 64. Input device: no input, a multi-class reader input, or customer-supplied input. 5) XT ports or iFob ports, which configuration should I order for my building?

XT ports are for Medeco XT electronic keys, and only those ports charge and program the key. iFob ports track anything else: the iFob is a nickel-plated brass tag with a unique electronic ID that you attach to a mechanical key, a vehicle key, or another asset, and the software then knows who has it. If your locks are conventional cylinders, iFob is the configuration you want, because there is nothing on a mechanical key for an XT port to charge. Buildings mid-conversion to XT should look at the 64-port hybrid.
6) How do we get keys out of the cabinet if the power or the network goes down?
There is a Medeco high-security mechanical lock on the cabinet for manual override, plus an Emergency Fob Release System for getting fobs out. Worth knowing before you specify: the override cylinder is a Medeco high-security keyway, so the override key belongs in your restricted key system and under the same control as any other high-security key in the building.
7) We are outgrowing our key cabinet. Can the Medeco IKC be expanded without replacing it?
Expansion is by add-on cabinets and panels, so the existing cabinet stays in service and keeps its user database. Multi-system networking ties the units together.
