Milbank MPAPD-200-MB-78 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the difference between the MPAP-100-MB-78, MPAP-200-MB-78 and MPAPD-200-MB-78 Milbank mobile home pedestals?
All three are 78 inch ring-type meter pedestals, and the difference is the breaker arrangement. MPAP-100-MB-78 is a single pedestal with one 100 amp main breaker on a large frame. MPAP-200-MB-78 is a single pedestal with one 200 amp main breaker, parallel wired. MPAPD-200-MB-78 is a double pedestal carrying two 200 amp main breakers, which is what you order when one pedestal has to serve two lots or two homes.
2) Will this Milbank meter pedestal take 4/0 aluminum URD from the transformer?
Yes. The line side terminals on the Milbank mobile home pedestal accept 6 AWG through 350 kcmil, so 4/0 aluminum lands without an adapter. Load side is a tighter range, 6 AWG through 2/0 AWG, so size the feeder to the home accordingly. Terminals are double mechanical type.
3) Does this Milbank pedestal accept overhead service drop, or is it underground only?
Underground only. Cable entry is direct bury, and the top is a plain top with no hub opening, so there is no provision to bring in an overhead service mast or weatherhead. If the utility is feeding you overhead, you need a pedestal or socket with a hub top instead.
4) Is this meter socket 4-jaw single phase, and will the utility's meter fit it?
It is a 4 terminal ring-type socket, single phase, rated up to 240 volts AC at 60 hertz. That is the standard configuration for a residential single phase 120/240V self-contained meter. Ring-type means the meter is held by a sealing ring, so confirm your utility accepts ring-type rather than ringless before you set it.
5) Are RV receptacles included on this Milbank mobile home pedestal?
No. The receptacle count on this pedestal is zero, so there are no 50A, 30A or 20A RV outlets built in. It is a meter socket with main breaker only. For an RV park site pedestal you need a unit configured with receptacles.
6) Can this meter pedestal be installed outdoors in a mobile home park?
That is exactly what it is built for. The enclosure is UL Listed and carries a Type 3R rating, which covers rain, sleet and external ice. The body is G90 galvanized steel with a powder coat finish for corrosion resistance in direct weather exposure.
7) Is there a ground bar in this pedestal or do I need to add a grounding kit?
A ground bar comes as the equipment ground provision in the pedestal, so you land your grounding electrode conductor and equipment grounds there without a separate kit.
8) How tall is this pedestal and how does it mount?
The unit stands 78 inches overall and is a pedestal-mount design, set in the ground rather than wall mounted. That height puts the meter face at a readable level once the base is buried to the utility's required depth.
