1) Will the Milbank U4551 meter socket take 4/0 aluminum service entrance cable?
Yes. The U4551 socket's lay-in terminals accept 6 AWG through 350 kcmil on both the line and load sides, so 4/0 falls well inside the range. Same window on both sides, which means you can land the utility service conductors and the feeder to the panel without adapters or reducers.
2) Does this 200A Milbank socket include a main breaker or disconnect?
No. The U4551 is a meter socket only, with no main breaker and no provision for one, and it carries a single meter position. You still need a separate service disconnect or main breaker panel downstream. If your utility or the AHJ requires a disconnect at the meter, order a meter main combination instead of this socket.
3) What is the difference between the U4551-RRL, U4551-RXL and U4551-RXL-5T9?
All three are 200A ringless lever bypass sockets with external hex. The RRL is the standard 5-terminal unit. The RXL comes with a small closing plate. The RXL-5T9 locates the 5th terminal at the 9 o'clock position. Utilities are specific about 5th terminal position and closing plate style, so match the variant to what your serving utility's meter spec calls out.
4) Do I need a 5-terminal meter socket or will a 4-terminal work?
The U4551 is a 5-jaw socket. The fifth jaw is what utilities require for 120/208V network or certain three-wire metering arrangements, and many utilities simply standardize on 5-terminal for new single-phase services. A 4-terminal meter will physically seat in a 5-jaw socket, but a 5-jaw meter will not fit a 4-terminal socket, so the utility's meter determines the choice. Check the service order before you set the can.
5) Can this meter socket be mounted outdoors on an exterior wall?
