The 90-degree union elbow features a solder cup, male NPT thread and union connection. The fitting provides a means of changing the pipeline direction 90 degrees, as well as adapting from a solder connection to a threaded connection. The union connection allows for the line to be repaired without damage. Please refer to NIBCO technical data sheets and catalogs for engineering and installation information. In addition to its inherent qualities of beauty, durability and low maintenance, copper's reusability makes it an ideal application in sustainable projects. NIBCO® copper fittings are manufactured in an ISO 9001 certified facility, and backed by a 50-year limited warranty. Because of its longstanding reputation for innovation and precision in design and manufacturing, NIBCO is the preferred brand in the industry.

Nibco B072900 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What do the connections on the Nibco 0707 union elbow actually mate to?
One end is a solder cup that takes copper tube, the other is a male NPT thread, and the joint between them is a union. So it turns the line 90 degrees while converting a sweat connection over to threaded pipe. That combination is what the C x M (NPT) designation means.
2) Can I use this bronze union elbow on a potable water line?
No. Nibco states that use of this fitting in U.S. drinking water applications is prohibited after January 3, 2014. It is a cast bronze body to ASTM B584 Alloy C84400, which is not a lead-free potable alloy. For domestic water, specify a lead-free union elbow instead. This one belongs on the non-potable side: hydronic heating, HVAC, fire protection, industrial and irrigation lines.
3) What copper tube sizes does the Nibco 0707-4-6 union elbow come in?
Five sizes: 3/8, 1/2, 3/4, 1 and 1-1/4 inch. Part numbers run B072750 for 3/8 inch, B072800 for 1/2, B072850 for 3/4, B072900 for 1 inch and B072950 for 1-1/4. All are straight size, so the solder cup and the male thread are the same nominal size on a given fitting.
4) Why pick a union elbow instead of a plain 90 and a separate union?
The union is built into the elbow, so you get the direction change and a breakable joint in one fitting instead of three, and you save the extra soldered joint and the space a separate union needs. The point of the union is serviceability: you can break the line apart at the elbow to pull a pump, valve or appliance without cutting pipe or reheating a soldered joint.
5) Is this Nibco union elbow made to a recognized fitting standard?
Material and workmanship are per ASME B16.18, the standard for cast copper alloy solder joint pressure fittings, and the casting is ASTM B584 Alloy C84400. Nibco also notes the fittings are made in an ISO 9001 certified facility. The bronze is dezincification resistant, which matters on water with aggressive chemistry.
6) Will the threaded end of this elbow screw straight into a pump or valve port?
The threaded end is male NPT, so it goes into a female NPT port on a pump, valve, tank or a female adapter. If the equipment port is male, you need a different configuration. Thread sealant or PTFE tape is not included and neither is solder or flux, so order those with the fitting.
7) Any install caution soldering a union elbow with a bronze body?
Yes, heat management. The union nut and seat sit right next to the solder cup, so sweat the cup before you make up the union side, and keep the flame off the union seat. Nibco publishes copper fitting installation instructions and technical data sheets that cover joint prep, flux and heating for these cast fittings.
