The 90-degree elbow features a solder cup and male NPT thread. The fitting provides a means of changing the pipeline direction 90 degrees, as well as adapting from a solder connection to a threaded connection. Please refer to NIBCO technical data sheets and catalogs for engineering and installation information. In addition to its inherent qualities of beauty, durability and low maintenance, copper's reusability makes it an ideal application in sustainable projects. NIBCO® copper fittings are manufactured in an ISO 9001 certified facility, and backed by a 50-year limited warranty. Because of its longstanding reputation for innovation and precision in design and manufacturing, NIBCO is the preferred brand in the industry.

Nibco B070350 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can I use the Nibco 707-4 copper elbow on potable drinking water lines?
No. The 707-4 cast bronze C x M elbow is prohibited from use in U.S. drinking water applications after January 3, 2014. It's made from ASTM B584 Alloy C84400, which does not meet the current low-lead potable water requirement. Use it on non-potable work only: heating, HVAC, fire protection, industrial, and irrigation lines. For potable domestic water you need a lead-free rated C x M adapter elbow instead.
2) What do the two ends of the Nibco 707-4 elbow connect to?
One end is a solder cup that slips over copper tube and gets sweated; the other is a male NPT thread. So the 707-4 both turns the run 90 degrees and converts from sweat copper to a threaded connection in one fitting. The male thread screws into a female NPT port, valve, pump, or threaded pipe.
3) What pipe sizes does the Nibco 707-4 C x M elbow come in?
Seven sizes: 3/8 inch, 1/2 inch, 1/2 x 3/4 inch, 3/4 inch, 3/4 x 1/2 inch, 1 inch, and 1-1/4 inch. The two dual-size listings are reducing versions, so you can change direction and step the thread size up or down in the same fitting.
4) Is a C x M elbow the right choice, or should I use a C x F elbow?
Depends which way the thread faces. The 707-4 carries a male NPT thread, so it threads into a female port on a valve, pump, tank, or fitting. If the component you are tying into has male threads, you need a female-thread (C x F) elbow instead. Both do the same 90 degree turn from a solder cup on the copper side.
5) Is the Nibco 707-4 elbow cast bronze or wrought copper, and does it matter?
It's cast bronze, ASTM B584 Alloy C84400, not wrought copper. Cast bronze is what lets the fitting carry machined NPT threads without splitting, which a thin wrought copper body can't do well. It's also noted as dezincification resistant, which matters on closed heating loops and irrigation where water chemistry attacks brass.
6) Does the Nibco 707-4 meet spec for a commercial job drawing calling out ASME B16.18 solder fittings?
Material and workmanship on the 707-4 are per ASME B16.18, and the fittings are made in an ISO 9001 certified facility. It is listed for commercial plumbing, fire protection, heating, HVAC, industrial and irrigation service. The one restriction to flag to the spec engineer: it cannot be used in U.S. drinking water applications.
7) Do I solder or thread the Nibco 707-4 elbow first during install?
Thread first, sweat second, is the usual order on a C x M fitting because torquing a joint you've already soldered can crack it. Nibco publishes copper fittings installation instructions for the 707-4, and the description points installers to Nibco technical data sheets for engineering and installation detail. Use a thread sealant rated for your system fluid on the male NPT end.
