1) Will the Nibco Chemtrol 4551-H-3 PVC flange bolt up to an ANSI B16.5 Class 150 flange?
Yes. The 4551-H-3 flange face and bolt pattern are compatible with ANSI B16.5 Class 150, so it mates with standard 150# metal or plastic companion flanges, valves and pumps in the same size. The pipe side is a female NPT thread, so you screw it onto threaded Schedule 80 pipe rather than solvent welding it.
2) What is the maximum temperature for the Chemtrol PVC Schedule 80 threaded flange?
140 degrees F is the maximum service temperature. PVC loses pressure rating as temperature climbs, so hot water lines, steam or process fluids above that need a different material. Also note this fitting is for liquid service only, not compressed air or other gases, and it must not be pressure tested with air.
3) Is this PVC flange approved for potable water in a commercial building?
The 4551-H-3 carries NSF/ANSI Standard 14 and NSF/ANSI/CAN-61, and is listed lead-free, which is what a plumbing inspector looks for on potable water piping. It also meets ASTM F1970. Typical uses are commercial plumbing, industrial process lines and irrigation.
4) What pipe sizes does the Nibco 4551-H-3 threaded PVC flange come in?
Eight sizes, from 1/2 inch up through 3 inch: 1/2, 3/4, 1, 1-1/4, 1-1/2, 2, 2-1/2 and 3 inch. Order by part number, for example CA23350 for 1/2 inch, CA24150 for 2 inch and CA24700 for 3 inch.
5) Should I use a threaded PVC flange or a socket (solvent weld) flange?
Pick the threaded version when the run is already threaded Schedule 80 pipe or when you need to break the joint later without cutting. The 4551-H-3 takes female NPT pipe thread. If you are cementing a continuous PVC run, a socket flange is the better joint since solvent weld gives a fully bonded connection with no thread sealant to maintain. Chemtrol PVC systems are joined by solvent cementing, threading or flanging, so all three methods live in the same system.
6) Is this a one-piece flange or a two-piece van stone style?
One-piece solid design. The hub and the flange face are a single molded part, so the bolt holes do not rotate to line up with the mating flange. Clock your threaded pipe accordingly on install, or plan a union upstream if you need alignment adjustment.
7) Do the bolts, nuts and gasket come with the Nibco 4551-H-3 flange?
No. What ships is the flange itself, a one-piece threaded PVC Schedule 80 body. Bolts, nuts, washers and the full-face gasket are separate, and so is the thread sealant or PTFE tape for the NPT connection. Size your bolt kit to the ANSI B16.5 Class 150 pattern for the pipe size you ordered.
8) Will this dark grey Chemtrol flange match my existing Schedule 80 PVC piping?
