The CPVC-CTS union is used for the repair of a line and features a female socket x copper male NPT threaded connection that allows for CPVC-CTS tube to be connected to copper piping. Please refer to NIBCO technical data sheets and catalogs for engineering and installation information. Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride (CPVC) has proven to be an excellent material for hot corrosive liquids, hot and cold water distribution, and similar applications above the temperature range of PVC. CPVC will not rust, pit, scale or corrode. CPVC fittings are easy to install and are joined by solvent cementing or threading. NIBCO® plastic fittings are backed by a 5-year limited warranty. Because of its longstanding reputation for innovation and precision in design and manufacturing, NIBCO is the preferred brand in the industry. FlowGuard Gold® is a registered trademark of The Lubrizol Corporation.

Nibco M260100 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can I use the Nibco 4733-4 CPVC union to tie CPVC pipe into an existing copper line?
That is exactly what it's for. The 4733-4 is a transition union with a CPVC slip (socket) end on one side and a male NPT threaded metal end on the other, so the plastic side solvent cements to CPVC CTS tube and the threaded side screws into a copper system fitting such as a female adapter or threaded valve. You cannot solder directly to the union, so the copper side has to terminate in female pipe threads.
2) Will this CPVC union hold up on a hot water line?
Yes, within limits. Maximum service temperature is 180 degrees F, which covers domestic hot water distribution in residential and commercial buildings. CPVC is rated above PVC's range and handles hot corrosive liquids without rusting, pitting, scaling, or corroding. It is not rated for boiler or steam service.
3) Can I use this union on a compressed air line?
No. The 4733-4 CPVC union is not for use with compressed air or other gases. Use it for hot and cold water distribution and liquid service only.
4) Is this Nibco CPVC union approved for potable water in a commercial building?
It's NSF U.P. certified and lead-free, which is what a potable water spec calls for on a domestic water system. It's listed for both commercial and residential plumbing use.
5) What sizes does the Nibco 4733-4 CPVC to copper union come in?
Three: 1/2 inch, 3/4 inch, and a 1/2 inch x 3/4 inch reducing configuration for stepping between tube sizes at the transition. Order by MPN M260100 for 1/2 inch, M260150 for the 1/2 x 3/4, and M260200 for 3/4 inch.
6) Why use a union here instead of a straight CPVC male adapter?
A union breaks apart. The 4733-4 has a nut in the middle so you can disconnect the joint later without cutting pipe, which is why it's specified for line repairs and at equipment, water heaters, and valves that get serviced. A male adapter is a permanent connection, cheaper and shorter, and fine where you never plan to take the line apart.
7) How do I join the CPVC side of this union, and do I need to worry about heat from soldering?
The plastic socket end is joined by solvent cementing with CPVC cement and primer per Nibco's plastic fittings installation instructions. Keep torch work away from it. Sweat any copper female adapter onto the line and let it cool fully before threading the union's metal male NPT end in, or you will damage the plastic body.
8) Will this union match the tan CPVC already run in my building?
Yes, the fitting body is tan, the standard CPVC CTS color used for hot and cold potable water tube, so it visually matches existing FlowGuard type CPVC runs in a repair or fleet standardization.
