1) Will a Nibco 4711 CPVC tee fit CPVC pipe I already have, or is it sized for schedule 40 PVC?
The 4711 tee is made for CPVC CTS (Copper Tube Size) pipe, not schedule 40 PVC sizing. CTS and schedule 40 use different outside diameters at the same nominal size, so a CTS socket will not seat correctly on sch 40 pipe. If the existing hot and cold lines are tan CPVC water distribution tube, this is the matching fitting. All three ends are female solvent weld sockets, so the pipe goes into the fitting.
2) What reducing sizes does the Nibco 4711 CPVC tee come in for branching a 1/2 inch line off a 3/4 inch main?
Five reducing configurations are offered alongside the straight sizes. For a 3/4 inch run with a 1/2 inch branch, order 3/4 x 3/4 x 1/2. If the reduction needs to fall in the run instead, there is 3/4 x 1/2 x 3/4 and 3/4 x 1/2 x 1/2. Larger reducers are 1 x 1 x 3/4, 1-1/2 x 1-1/2 x 1, and 2 x 2 x 1. Straight tees run 1/2, 3/4, 1, 1-1/4, 1-1/2, and 2 inch. Read the three sizes in order: run, run, branch.
3) Can I use a CPVC tee on a hot water line, and how hot can it go?
Hot water distribution is what CPVC is for, and the 4711 tee carries a maximum service temperature of 180 degrees F. That covers domestic hot water in both commercial and residential systems. It is above the range PVC handles, which is why CPVC is the material specified on hot lines. Pressure falls off as temperature rises on any thermoplastic system, so size the system to the design temperature.
4) Is the Nibco 4711 CPVC tee lead free and NSF certified for potable water?
