The PVC DWV double sanitary tee features all hub connections, a flowing sweep to aid in the evacuation of waste and used fluids, and a 90-degree side inlet to join a PVC branch line into a vertical drain pipe. The tee allows for a connection to be made in continuous pipeline and branch out to a different direction. Please refer to NIBCO technical data sheets and catalogs for engineering and installation information. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is the most frequently specified of all thermoplastic materials because of its light weight, durability, and cost-effectiveness. PVC DWV is easy to install and is joined by solvent cementing or threading. PVC fittings exhibit high corrosion and chemical resistance and will not rust, scale, pit or corrode. NIBCO® plastic fittings are backed by a 5-year limited warranty. Because of its longstanding reputation for innovation and precision in design and manufacturing, NIBCO is the preferred brand in the industry.

Nibco K275200 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does a double sanitary tee with a side inlet do that a regular sanitary tee can't?
A double sanitary tee takes branch drains from two opposite sides of a vertical stack instead of one, so back-to-back fixtures (two lavatories or two kitchen sinks on opposite sides of a wet wall) tie into the same stack at the same elevation. The Nibco 4835-9 adds a third connection: a 90-degree side inlet, so a smaller branch line, typically a vent or a small fixture drain, can land on the same fitting. If you only have one branch coming in, a single sanitary tee is the simpler fitting.
2) What pipe sizes does the Nibco 4835-9 double sanitary tee come in?
Three configurations, and each one is a reducing fitting: 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 2 inch, 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 1-1/2 inch, and 4 x 4 x 4 x 4 x 2 inch. The first four figures are the run and the two branch openings; the last is the side inlet. So on a 3 inch stack you pick the inlet size, 2 inch or 1-1/2 inch, and on a 4 inch stack the inlet is 2 inch.
3) How do the connections on this Nibco PVC DWV double sanitary tee join to the pipe, threaded or glued?
All five openings are hubs, joined by solvent weld. There are no threads anywhere on the fitting, so you need PVC primer and DWV solvent cement and Schedule 40 PVC DWV pipe cut square and deburred. The end configuration is hub x hub x hub, meaning socket connections throughout, and the side inlet is a hub as well.
4) Can a double sanitary tee be used on a horizontal drain line, or only vertical?
This one belongs in the vertical, in the stack. A double sanitary tee brings branches in on a short-radius turn, which works when flow drops vertically past it but pulls the trap seal and invites stoppages if it is laid on its back in a horizontal run. For a horizontal branch connection use a combination wye and 1/8 bend or a double wye instead. The description is explicit that the 90-degree inlet joins a branch into a vertical drain pipe.
5) Is this Nibco double sanitary tee approved for commercial work and does it meet code standards?
It is manufactured to ASTM D2665 and D3311, certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 14, and NSF U.P. certified, which is the listing most jurisdictions want to see on DWV fittings. Nibco rates it for both commercial and residential plumbing systems.
6) Can this PVC DWV tee handle hot water from a dishwasher or a commercial kitchen line?
Maximum service temperature is 140 degrees F. Ordinary dishwasher and laundry discharge is fine, but a commercial kitchen or lab line that dumps sustained high-temperature waste will exceed that, and PVC softens rather than fails visibly. For a line running hotter than 140 F on a regular basis, specify a fitting rated for elevated temperature instead of PVC DWV.
7) Can I pressure test a PVC DWV drain system with air?
No. Nibco states plainly not to test or use these fittings with compressed air or other gases. PVC DWV is a non-pressure, gravity drainage system, and stored energy in a pneumatic test can shatter a fitting. Test with water, per your local code's head or fill test.
8) Which inlet size should I order for back-to-back bathroom lavatories on a 3 inch stack?
On a 3 inch stack the side inlet comes 1-1/2 inch or 2 inch. A 1-1/2 inch inlet suits a lavatory branch or a 1-1/2 inch vent; step up to the 2 inch inlet where the branch serves a tub, shower, or a laundry standpipe, or where local code calls for 2 inch. On a 4 inch stack only the 2 inch inlet is offered.
9) Does the side inlet on the Nibco 4835-9 face left or right?
The inlet is on the right when the fitting is oriented as catalogued, one right-hand inlet on the 90-degree branch. Since the tee is a solvent-weld socket fitting with a symmetrical run, you set the orientation when you dry-fit it, so mark the alignment before you cement. If the plan calls for the inlet on a specific side relative to the branch hubs, dry-fit and mark first, because there is no adjusting it after the cement sets.
10) What is the Nibco part number for the 4 inch double sanitary tee with a 2 inch inlet?
That configuration is Nibco MPN K275380, the 4 x 4 x 4 x 4 x 2 inch. The two 3 inch bodies are K275200 for the 2 inch inlet and K275250 for the 1-1/2 inch inlet. All three are the 4835-9 pattern, PVC DWV, all hub.
