The ABS DWV double sanitary tee features all hub connections, a flowing sweep to aid in the evacuation of waste and used fluids, and a 90-degree side inlet to join a ABS branch line into a vertical drain pipe. The tee allows for a connection to be made in continuous pipe line and branch out to a different direction. Please refer to NIBCO technical data sheets and catalogs for engineering and installation information. Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS) is resistant to a wide variety of materials ranging from sewage to commercial household chemical formulations and can be exposed to a wide temperature span. ABS is lightweight, safe to handle and easy to install. ABS DWV is joined by solvent cementing or threading and can easily be connected to steel, copper, or cast iron through the use of transition fittings. NIBCO® plastic fittings are backed by a 5-year limited warranty. Because of its longstanding reputation for innovation and precision in design and manufacturing, NIBCO is the preferred brand in the industry.

Nibco I275200 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does a double sanitary tee with a 90-degree side inlet actually do in a DWV stack?
The Nibco 5835-9 is a double sanitary tee, so it takes two branch drains into a vertical stack from opposite sides, plus a separate 90-degree side inlet hub for a third ABS branch line. The sweep on the branch openings turns flow downward into the stack instead of dumping it straight across. Use it where two fixtures back up to each other on a common wall, like back-to-back lavatories or a two-sided fixture bank, and you still need one more inlet at that same point in the stack. It is a drain, waste and vent fitting, not a pressure fitting.
2) Do I need to glue the Nibco 5835-9 double sanitary tee, or does it thread on?
All five openings are hubs and the fitting is solvent weld, so every connection is cemented, not threaded. Schedule 40 ABS DWV pipe slips into the socket and gets ABS solvent cement. If you need to break into steel, copper or cast iron on the same run, you do it with a transition fitting rather than trying to thread this one.
3) What sizes does the Nibco 5835-9 double sanitary tee come in?
Three configurations, all reducing at the side inlet. On 3 inch stack and branches, the inlet is either 2 inch (I275200) or 1-1/2 inch (I275250). On a 4 inch stack and branches, the inlet is 2 inch (I275380). So the run and both branch openings match the stack size, and only the 90-degree inlet steps down.
4) Can I use an ABS double sanitary tee on a horizontal drain line?
No. A double sanitary tee belongs in a vertical stack, taking branch drains in from the sides. Laid on its back in a horizontal run, the two opposed branch openings face each other and waste from one side blows across into the other. For a horizontal branch connection use a wye and 1/8 bend instead. Nibco's own description puts this fitting on a vertical drain pipe.
5) Is this ABS tee approved for commercial work, or residential only?
Both. The 5835-9 is listed for commercial and residential plumbing, and it carries the standards an inspector on a commercial job will look for: ASTM D2661 and D3311, ASTM D2665, ASTM D3965, CSA B181.1, NSF/ANSI Standard 14, NSF U.P. Certified, and UL Listed 94V-0.
6) Which side is the 90-degree inlet on, and does that make this fitting handed?
Handed, yes. The inlet sits on the right, so orientation matters when you dry-fit the stack. Rotate the fitting and the inlet swings with it, so figure out which wall your third branch is coming from before you spread cement. There is no left-inlet version of the 5835-9.
7) What temperature can ABS DWV fittings handle, and can I air test the system?
Service range is -40 F to 180 F, which covers unheated crawl spaces and cold attics as well as normal waste temperatures. Do not test or use the system with compressed air or any other gas. Water test only. That is a Nibco instruction on the fitting, not a suggestion.
8) Will this black ABS tee match the existing DWV piping in my building?
The fitting is black ABS, so it matches existing black ABS waste and vent piping. If the stack you are tying into is white, that is PVC, and PVC and ABS are different materials that should not be solvent cemented to each other with standard ABS cement. Confirm the pipe you are cutting into is ABS before you order.
9) Do I use a double sanitary tee or two separate sanitary tees for back-to-back fixtures?
One double sanitary tee takes both branches at the same elevation on the stack, which is what back-to-back fixtures need and what the code generally requires rather than two singles stacked close together. The 5835-9 goes further by adding a third, 90-degree side inlet, so you can pick up an extra branch at that same point instead of cutting in another fitting above or below. If you only ever have branches on one side, a single sanitary tee is the simpler fitting.
10) How do I order the right Nibco 5835-9 by part number?
Order by the Nibco MPN, since all three share the 5835-9 designation and differ only in size. I275250 is 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 1-1/2 inch, I275200 is 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 x 2 inch, and I275380 is 4 x 4 x 4 x 4 x 2 inch. The last figure in each string is the 90-degree side inlet.
