The light grey Corzan® CPVC adapter union features a female socket and a female NPT thread connections. This fitting has an EPDM ethylene propylene seal which has good abrasion and tear resistance, plus excellent chemical resistance, but not recommended for applications involving petroleum oils or most strong acids. Please refer to Chemtrol technical data sheets, chemical resistance guides and catalogs for engineering and installation information. Corzan® CPVC Schedule 80 thermoplastics demonstrate excellent mechanical strength over broad temperature range, outstanding underground performance and superior hydraulics. Chemtrol Corzan® CPVC fittings are lightweight, easy to install, maintenance-free and will not rust, scale, pit or corrode. Chemtrol® premium line of plastic fittings is backed by a 1-year limited warranty. Because Chemtrol® is a NIBCO brand the flow-control fittings are unsurpassed in quality, performance and longevity.

Nibco CB18655 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) How does the Nibco Chemtrol CPVC Schedule 80 union connect to pipe on each side?
It is a socket by female NPT thread union, so one side solvent welds over CPVC Schedule 80 pipe and the other threads onto a male NPT connection. That makes it a transition union: use it where a solvent cemented CPVC run meets threaded equipment such as a pump, valve, filter housing or metal piping. If you need thread on both ends or socket on both ends, this is not the configuration to order.
2) What is the maximum temperature this CPVC union can handle?
Maximum service temperature is 210 degrees F. That is the reason to pick CPVC over PVC on a hot water or elevated temperature process line. Pressure rating falls off as temperature climbs, so a line running near the top of that range should be sized against the manufacturer's pressure/temperature derating data.
3) Is the EPDM seal in this union right for my chemical or fuel line?
The seat seal is EPDM rubber, which handles abrasion, tearing and a wide range of chemicals well, but it is not recommended for petroleum oils or most strong acids. If your media is oil, fuel or a strong acid, specify a different elastomer rather than this EPDM version. For water, most process and irrigation service the EPDM seat is the normal choice.
4) Can I use this CPVC union on potable water in a commercial building?
Yes. The union is listed to NSF/ANSI Standard 14 and NSF/ANSI/CAN 61, and it is flagged lead-free, which is what a plans examiner looks for on potable water. It also carries ASTM F1970 for the fitting itself. Typical service is commercial plumbing, industrial, irrigation and lead-free systems.
5) Can I air test a CPVC Schedule 80 line that has this union in it?
No. Do not use or test this fitting with compressed air or other gases. Hydrostatic test only. Air testing thermoplastic pressure piping stores energy in the line and is the single most common way these systems fail during commissioning.
6) Why put a union in the line instead of just a coupling?
A solvent welded coupling is permanent; cutting it out means cutting pipe. This Chemtrol union breaks apart at the nut so a pump, strainer or valve can be pulled for service and reinstalled without touching the pipe. Put one on each side of any component you expect to remove. The socket end glues to the pipe run and the female NPT end takes the threaded equipment connection.
7) Will this light grey CPVC union match the rest of my Corzan Schedule 80 piping?
It is light grey Corzan CPVC, the standard color for Schedule 80 CPVC systems, so it matches existing Corzan pipe and fittings visually and in material. Because it is CPVC and not PVC, keep to CPVC solvent cement on the socket side; PVC cement is not the correct product for this joint.
8) Do I need thread sealant on the NPT side of this CPVC union?
The threaded side is a female NPT port, so the male thread going into it needs PTFE tape or a plastic-safe thread sealant. Hand tighten plus one to two turns with a strap wrench only; plastic female threads split if you torque them like metal. The other end is a solvent weld socket and takes CPVC cement, no sealant.
