1) Will a Nibco 5804 ABS male adapter thread into a steel or cast iron drain line?
That's exactly what the 5804 is for. One end is a solvent weld hub that cements to ABS DWV pipe, the other is a male NPT thread that screws into any female NPT connection, so it's the standard way to take an ABS drain line onto steel, copper, or cast iron through a transition fitting. It's Schedule 40, DWV service only, so it belongs in drain, waste, and vent work, not pressure piping. Do not test or use it with compressed air or other gases.
2) What sizes does the Nibco 5804 ABS male adapter come in?

5) Can I mix this black ABS adapter with white PVC DWV pipe?
No. The 5804 is ABS, and the hub side is solvent cemented, which means it has to be joined to ABS pipe with ABS cement. ABS and PVC are different resins and the joint is not an approved solvent weld between them in most jurisdictions. If your existing line is white PVC, use a PVC fitting or make the changeover with a mechanical transition coupling. The black color is how you tell the two apart on a jobsite.
6) Should I use a male adapter or a female adapter to connect ABS to threaded pipe?
Pick by which half already has the thread. The 5804 male adapter puts male NPT threads on your ABS line, so it screws into a female-threaded fitting, a floor drain body, or a trap adapter with female threads. If the mating part has male threads instead, you want the female-thread version of the same adapter. Both cement to ABS pipe on the hub side the same way.
7) What do I need besides the fitting to install a Nibco 5804 ABS male adapter?
Two things it doesn't come with: ABS solvent cement for the hub joint, and thread sealant or PTFE tape for the NPT side. Don't over-torque the threads. Plastic male threads are the half that splits, so hand tight plus a short turn with a strap wrench is the working rule.
