1) What does the Spg x Hub connection on the Nibco 5808-2 22-1/2 degree elbow mean for install?
One end is a spigot, sized like pipe so it drops straight into the hub of another fitting, and the other end is a hub that takes pipe or another spigot. That's why it's called a street elbow: you can join fitting to fitting without cutting a short nipple of pipe. Both ends are solvent weld, so it cements rather than threads.
2) When should I use a 22-1/2 degree ABS elbow instead of a 45 or a 90?
A 22-1/2 degree fitting is a 1/16 bend, the gentlest offset of the common DWV elbows. Use it when you need to jog a drain or vent around a joist, a stack, or a wall offset with minimal change in flow direction. A 45 (1/8 bend) gives a sharper offset, and a 90 is for a true direction change. On horizontal drainage, the shallower the bend the less the flow is disturbed.
3) Can I use the Nibco 5808-2 ABS elbow on a pressure or compressed air line?
No. It is a drain, waste and vent fitting only, and NIBCO states plainly not to test or use it with compressed air or other gases. Service temperature range is -40 F to 180 F. For pressure water service you need a pressure-rated system, not ABS DWV.
4) Will this ABS fitting tie into existing cast iron or copper drain lines?
Not directly. ABS DWV joins to itself by solvent cement, and NIBCO calls for transition fittings to connect to steel, copper or cast iron. Plan on a shielded coupling or transition fitting at the changeover point.
5) Is this Nibco ABS elbow approved for commercial buildings and does it carry NSF certification?
It is listed for both commercial and residential plumbing. Standards called out are ASTM D2665, D3965, D2661 and D3311, CSA B181.1, NSF/ANSI Standard 14 with NSF U.P. certification, and UL Listed 94V-0 for flammability.
