The ABS DWV 22-1/2-degree elbow features a hub x hub connection and is used to change the direction of flow. Please refer to NIBCO technical data sheets and catalogs for engineering and installation information. Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS) is resistant to a wide variety of materials ranging from sewage to commercial household chemical formulations and can be exposed to a wide temperature span. ABS is lightweight, safe to handle and easy to install. ABS DWV is joined by solvent cementing or threading and can easily be connected to steel, copper, or cast iron through the use of transition fittings. NIBCO® plastic fittings are backed by a 5-year limited warranty. Because of its longstanding reputation for innovation and precision in design and manufacturing, NIBCO is the preferred brand in the industry.

Nibco I079350 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What pipe sizes does the Nibco 5808 22-1/2 degree ABS DWV elbow come in?
Five sizes: 1-1/2, 2, 3, 4 and 6 inch. Each is a straight-size fitting, meaning both hubs match the pipe size, so a 2 inch elbow takes 2 inch Schedule 40 ABS on both ends. MPNs run I079300 (1-1/2"), I079350 (2"), I079400 (3"), I079450 (4") and I079510 (6").
2) Do I need to thread or glue the Nibco 5808 elbow, and does it take a male pipe end?
It's solvent weld, hub x hub. Both ends are sockets (hubs) sized to slip over the outside of Schedule 40 ABS pipe and get cemented with ABS solvent cement. There are no threads on either end, so a threaded male pipe will not go into it. If you need to land on threads or on steel, copper, or cast iron, use a transition fitting or an adapter between the pipe and this elbow.
3) Can I use this ABS elbow on a commercial building drain, or is it residential only?
Both. Nibco lists the 5808 for commercial and residential plumbing, in drain, waste and vent service. It carries CSA B181.1, ASTM D2665, ASTM D3965, ASTM D2661 and D3311, is UL Listed 94V-0, meets NSF/ANSI Standard 14 and is NSF U.P. certified, which is the certification set inspectors typically look for on a DWV system.
4) What temperature can a Nibco ABS DWV fitting handle? Will hot water from a dishwasher or washer hurt it?
Service range is -40 F to 180 F, which covers hot discharge from a dishwasher, washing machine, or kitchen sink on a drain line. ABS also resists everything from sewage to household and commercial chemical cleaners. What it is not rated for is pressure air: do not test or use these fittings with compressed air or other gases. Pressure-test the system with water.
5) What is a 22-1/2 degree elbow used for on a DWV drain line?
A 22-1/2 degree bend (also called a 1/16 bend) is the shallowest of the common DWV elbows. It's for gentle offsets, easing a stack or a horizontal drain around an obstruction such as a joist, beam, or another pipe, without the abrupt turn that a 45 or 90 would put in the line. Two of them back to back make a very shallow offset while keeping flow smooth. Use a 45 (1/8 bend) where you need a sharper change of direction.
6) Will this elbow match the black ABS pipe already in my building?
Yes, it's black ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene), the standard black DWV material, so it matches existing black ABS pipe and fittings visually and cements to them with ABS solvent cement. It is not PVC. White PVC DWV lines need PVC fittings and PVC cement, or a listed transition coupling between the two materials.
7) Is the 6 inch version the same fitting, just bigger, for a main building drain?
Same design throughout the range. The 6 inch (MPN I079510) is a straight-size hub x hub 22-1/2 degree elbow in Schedule 40 ABS, identical in function to the small sizes, and it's the one used where a 6 inch building drain or main stack has to be offset. On large diameters allow plenty of working room: solvent cement sets fast and a 6 inch joint has to be fully seated on the first push.
8) Is there an installation guide for cementing Nibco plastic DWV fittings?
Nibco publishes Plastic Fittings Installation Instructions, linked on the product record, and recommends referring to its technical data sheets and catalogs for engineering and installation detail. ABS itself is lightweight and easy to handle, so the install comes down to a clean, deburred, dry pipe end and correct ABS solvent cement technique.
