1) Will the Nibco 5810 ABS wye solvent weld to my existing schedule 40 ABS drain line?
Yes. The 5810 wye is a solvent weld fitting with hub sockets on all three openings, sized for schedule 40 ABS DWV pipe. You cut the pipe, prime and cement it into the hub, no threads and no gaskets. If the existing line is PVC, cast iron, copper or steel, you need a transition fitting at the joint rather than cementing directly to this wye.
2) What pipe sizes does the Nibco 5810 45-degree ABS wye come in, including reducing versions?
Straight sizes run 1-1/4, 1-1/2, 2, 3, 4 and 6 inch. A 45-degree wye is the fitting for horizontal-to-horizontal branch connections. Its 1/8 bend turns the incoming flow downstream instead of dumping it in at a right angle, so waste keeps moving and solids do not stall at the junction. A sanitary tee belongs where a vertical stack picks up a horizontal branch. The 5810 wye is the one you want when a branch line ties into a continuous run, and it is typically paired with a 45-degree elbow to bring the branch back to grade.
4) Is the Nibco 5810 ABS wye approved for drain, waste and vent use in a commercial building?
It is built for DWV drain, waste and vent service in both commercial and residential systems, and it carries NSF/ANSI Standard 14 and NSF U.P. certification along with ASTM D2661, D2665, D3311, D3965 and CSA B181.1. It is also UL Listed 94V-0. That is the paperwork an inspector or a spec reviewer normally asks for on an ABS DWV fitting.
5) What temperature range can an ABS DWV wye handle, and can I use it on a hot water waste line?
Service range is -40 F to 180 F, which covers dishwasher, laundry and lavatory discharge as well as unheated crawlspace and attic runs. What it will not take is compressed air or any other gas: ABS DWV must never be pressure tested with air. Fill and test with water.
6) Can I use a Nibco 5810 ABS wye with PVC drain pipe?
No. The 5810 is ABS, and ABS and PVC are cemented with different solvent cements and are not a straight swap for one another. Match the wye to the pipe material you are running, or use a proper transition fitting or shielded coupling where the two materials meet. On a repair, check what is already in the ceiling: black pipe is ABS, white is usually PVC.
7) What chemicals can an ABS DWV wye handle in a commercial kitchen or janitorial waste line?
ABS resists everything from raw sewage to the commercial and household chemical formulations that go down a mop sink or kitchen drain, which is why it holds up in MRO and multi-family waste lines. It is not a process or chemical-drain fitting, though: it is DWV, gravity flow only, with no pressure rating.
8) Do I need a reducer bushing to bring a 1-1/2 inch branch into a 2 inch ABS drain line?
Not with the reducing wyes. Order the 2 x 2 x 1-1/2 to keep the run at 2 inch with a 1-1/2 inch branch, or the 2 x 1-1/2 x 1-1/2 where the line reduces downstream too. Same logic at the larger sizes: 3 x 3 x 1-1/2, 4 x 4 x 1-1/2, 4 x 4 x 2, 4 x 4 x 3, 6 x 6 x 3 and 6 x 6 x 4 all pick up a smaller branch without a bushing in the socket.
9) What is the Nibco part number for a 4 inch ABS 45-degree wye?
Nibco lists the full size 4 inch 5810 wye as I091050. The reducing versions in that size are I091100 for 4 x 4 x 3, I091150 for 4 x 4 x 2 and I091200 for 4 x 4 x 1-1/2. Quote the reducing size on the order, since all four are the same 5810 pattern and only the branch socket differs.
10) Is a 6 inch ABS wye available for a building drain or main sewer line tie-in?
Yes, the 5810 goes up to 6 inch: full size 6 inch (I092600), 6 x 6 x 4 (I092650) and 6 x 6 x 3 (I092700). All three are solvent weld hubs on schedule 40 ABS DWV, so a 6 inch building drain can pick up a 4 inch or 3 inch branch without changing fitting families.
11) Can I thread an ABS DWV wye instead of gluing it?
Not this one. The 5810 has hub sockets on all three ends, so it is a cemented joint. ABS DWV as a system can be joined by solvent cementing or threading, but threading requires a fitting made with threaded ends. If you need a serviceable disconnect at that point, plan a threaded adapter or a cleanout fitting into the run instead.
12) Will a black ABS wye match the drain fittings already in my building?
