The ABS DWV street tee features a spigot x hub x hub connection and a flowing sweep to aid in the evacuation of waste and used fluids. Please refer to NIBCO technical data sheets and catalogs for engineering and installation information. Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS) is resistant to a wide variety of materials ranging from sewage to commercial household chemical formulations and can be exposed to a wide temperature span. ABS is lightweight, safe to handle and easy to install. ABS DWV is joined by solvent cementing or threading and can easily be connected to steel, copper, or cast iron through the use of transition fittings. NIBCO® plastic fittings are backed by a 5-year limited warranty. Because of its longstanding reputation for innovation and precision in design and manufacturing, NIBCO is the preferred brand in the industry.

Nibco I103050 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does Spg x Hub x Hub mean on the Nibco 5811-2 ABS street tee?
The 5811-2 is a street tee, so one end is a spigot (the male end, sized like pipe) and the other two are hubs (female sockets). The spigot plugs straight into another fitting's hub, which saves you a short cut of pipe and a joint when you are tying a branch in close quarters. Both hub openings take pipe. All three connections are solvent weld.
2) Will this ABS tee fit Schedule 40 DWV pipe?
Yes. The 5811-2 is a Schedule 40 ABS DWV fitting and socket-fits standard Schedule 40 ABS DWV pipe of the matching nominal size. It is a drain, waste and vent fitting only, not a pressure fitting.
3) Can I glue this ABS street tee to PVC pipe?
No. The 5811-2 is ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) and is joined with ABS solvent cement to ABS pipe. To tie into another material, use a transition fitting; ABS DWV connects to steel, copper or cast iron through transition fittings, and the same approach applies when you are leaving the ABS system.
4) Is this ABS tee approved for potable-adjacent plumbing work and inspection?
The fitting carries NSF/ANSI Standard 14 and is NSF U.P. Certified, is UL Listed 94V-0, and is manufactured to ASTM D2665, D3965, D2661 and D3311, plus CSA B181.1 for Canadian work. That is the set most inspectors look for on a DWV rough-in, and it is approved for both commercial and residential plumbing.
5) What temperature range can the Nibco ABS DWV street tee handle?
Service temperature runs from -40 F to 180 F, which covers normal drain, waste and vent duty including intermittent hot discharge from sinks and dishwashers. Do not test or use it with compressed air or other gases.
6) Is a sanitary tee like this one OK to use on a horizontal drain run?
The 5811-2 has a flowing sweep on the branch to help carry waste away, which is what makes it right for vertical drainage and vent connections. Standard DWV practice is to keep a sanitary tee out of a horizontal-to-horizontal drainage connection and use a wye with an eighth bend there instead. Use the sanitary tee where a horizontal branch enters a vertical stack, or on vent work.
7) Why choose a street tee instead of a regular ABS hub x hub x hub tee?
Use the street version when the tee has to land directly into the hub of another fitting. The spigot end of the 5811-2 is sized like pipe, so it slips into the next fitting's socket with no cut-off nipple between them. That saves a joint and about a fitting's length of space, which is the difference in a tight joist bay or wall cavity. If both ends of the run need to accept pipe, a plain hub x hub x hub tee is what you want.
8) Will this tee match the black drain pipe already in my building?
Yes, if that existing pipe is ABS. The 5811-2 is black ABS, the standard color for ABS DWV, so it blends with an existing ABS drain, waste and vent system. White pipe in a building is normally PVC, and this fitting is not the right part for that system.
9) How is the Nibco 5811-2 ABS street tee joined, and does it need primer?
It is a solvent weld fitting. ABS DWV is joined by solvent cementing, using ABS cement; ABS does not require the separate purple primer that PVC does, though the surfaces have to be clean and the sockets dry. ABS is lightweight and easy to handle on a ladder, which is part of why it goes up fast overhead. Nibco publishes plastic fittings installation instructions for the cure and set details.
10) Will ABS hold up to drain cleaners and waste chemicals in a commercial building?
ABS resists a wide range of materials from sewage through common commercial and household chemical formulations, which is why it is used for both commercial and residential drain, waste and vent systems. For anything outside ordinary building waste, check the chemical against Nibco's technical data before committing a run to it.
11) What is the Nibco part number for a 2 inch ABS street tee?
The straight 2 inch is Nibco I103050. For the reducing patterns in that size, 2 x 2 x 1-1/2 is I103060, 2 x 1-1/2 x 2 is I103070 and 2 x 1-1/2 x 1-1/2 is I103080. The 1-1/2 inch is I103000, 3 inch is I103100 and 4 inch is I103250.
