The ABS DWV 45-degree double wye features all hub connections and allows for a connection to be made in continuous pipe line and branch out to different directions. Please refer to NIBCO technical data sheets and catalogs for engineering and installation information. Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS) is resistant to a wide variety of materials ranging from sewage to commercial household chemical formulations and can be exposed to a wide temperature span. ABS is lightweight, safe to handle and easy to install. ABS DWV is joined by solvent cementing or threading and can easily be connected to steel, copper, or cast iron through the use of transition fittings. NIBCO® plastic fittings are backed by a 5-year limited warranty. Because of its longstanding reputation for innovation and precision in design and manufacturing, NIBCO is the preferred brand in the industry.

Nibco I265450 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Nibco 5834 double wye connect to 2 inch ABS pipe on the branches and 3 inch on the run?
Yes. The 5834 double wye is offered in a 3" x 3" x 2" x 2" reducing configuration, MPN I265800, which takes 3 inch pipe on the through run and 2 inch on both branches. Other reducing sizes cover 2" x 2" x 1-1/2" x 1-1/2", 3" x 3" x 1-1/2" x 1-1/2", 4" x 4" x 3" x 3", 4" x 4" x 2" x 2", and 6" x 6" x 4" x 4". Straight sizes run 1-1/2, 2, 3, and 4 inch. All openings are hub, so every connection is solvent welded.
2) Does the Nibco 5834 ABS double wye have threaded or slip ends?
All openings are hubs, sized for solvent weld. Pipe goes into the socket with ABS cement, there is no thread and no gasket. If the tie-in needs to be removable or you are landing on steel, copper, or cast iron, you need a transition fitting at that joint, not this wye.
3) Is the Nibco 5834 wye rated for a commercial building or only residential?
Both. The 5834 is listed for commercial and residential plumbing, in DWV drain, waste, and vent service. It carries CSA B181.1, ASTM D2665, ASTM D3965, ASTM D2661 and D3311, UL Listed 94V-0, NSF/ANSI Standard 14, and NSF U.P. certification, which is the paperwork an inspector or a facility spec typically asks for on ABS DWV.
4) Will a Nibco 5834 ABS wye fit Schedule 40 ABS DWV pipe?
Yes, the 5834 is a Schedule 40 ABS DWV fitting, so the hubs are cut for Schedule 40 ABS pipe of the nominal size marked on the fitting. Match nominal size to nominal size and use ABS solvent cement.
5) Will a black ABS wye match the PVC DWV pipe already in my building?
The 5834 is black ABS, not white PVC, and the two are different materials. ABS cement will not properly bond ABS to PVC pipe, so if the existing system is PVC you want a PVC DWV double wye instead, or a mechanical transition coupling at the joint. Where the existing drainage is already black ABS, this drops straight in.
6) When should I use a double wye instead of two separate wyes on a drain line?
A double wye picks up two branches at the same point on a continuous run, so it is the fitting for back-to-back fixtures, two lavatories on opposite sides of a wall, or a pair of stacks tying into one horizontal line. Two single wyes would need extra pipe between them and two more joints. The 5834 branches come off at 45 degrees (1/8 bend), which keeps flow moving with the run instead of fighting it, which is why wyes are used on drainage rather than sanitary tees.
7) What temperature can ABS DWV fittings like the Nibco 5834 handle?
Service range is -40 F to 180 F, which covers dishwasher and laundry discharge and unheated crawl space or attic runs. It is a drainage fitting only. Do not pressure test it or use it with compressed air or any other gas.
8) Is ABS DWV pipe OK for a commercial kitchen or janitorial drain carrying cleaning chemicals?
ABS holds up against a broad range of materials from sewage through commercial and household chemical formulations, which is the usual reason it gets specified for institutional and multi-family drainage. Keep it inside the -40 F to 180 F service range, so a line seeing sustained boiling discharge needs a different material.
9) Can I use the Nibco 5834 double wye on a vent line as well as a waste line?
Yes. The 5834 is classified for the full DWV system, drain, waste, and vent, so it works where two vents combine as well as on a waste run. The 45 degree branch geometry means it can go in horizontally on drainage where a tee could not.
10) What is the largest size the Nibco 5834 double wye comes in?
The top size is 6" x 6" x 4" x 4", MPN I266200, a 6 inch run with two 4 inch branches. Above the straight 4 inch (I265860), the 5834 is only made as a reducer, so a 6 x 6 x 6 x 6 is not part of the range.
