Nibco E022150 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does the Nibco 802-C DWV flush adapter connect to on each end?
The Nibco 802-C is a C x M adapter: one end is a solder cup that sweats onto copper DWV tube, the other is a male NPT thread. It's the fitting you use when a soldered copper drain, waste or vent line has to land on a female threaded connection, like a trap adapter, a cleanout, or a threaded fixture drain outlet.
2) What pipe sizes does the Nibco 802-C DWV flush adapter come in?
Two sizes: 1-1/2 inch (MPN E022050) and 2 inch (MPN E022150). Those are the two sizes that cover most residential and light commercial DWV work, 1-1/2 for lavatory and small fixture drains, 2 inch for showers, tubs, kitchen and vent risers. Both are straight size, so the solder cup and the male thread match the nominal size, there's no reducing version.
3) Is the Nibco 802-C a flush adapter or a regular male adapter, and does it matter for a trap connection?
It's the flush type, and it matters. The 802-C is listed as a flush, trap, straight size, threaded adapter, meaning the solder socket is made so the tube seats flush with the fitting shoulder rather than leaving a step inside the waterway. On a trap arm or a tubular trap connection that flush interior is what keeps waste from catching at the joint. A standard male adapter will thread up the same but won't give you that flush interior.
4) Can I use the Nibco 802-C on a pressure water line instead of a drain?
No. The 802-C is a DWV fitting, built for drain, waste and vent service only, and DWV fittings are not rated for pressurized supply piping. For a soldered copper supply line that needs to land on a female thread, you want a pressure rated copper male adapter in the same size, not a DWV adapter. Using this one on a supply line is the wrong part.
5) Is the Nibco 802-C brass or bronze, and will it survive aggressive water?
Cast bronze, ASTM B584 alloy C84400, and it's dezincification resistant. That last point is the one that matters if you're working in a building with soft or chloride heavy water, where ordinary yellow brass fittings lose zinc over time and turn porous at the threads. C84400 is a leaded red brass/bronze casting alloy used for cast DWV fittings; workmanship is per ASME B16.23, the standard that covers cast copper alloy solder joint DWV fittings.
6) Does the Nibco 802-C need thread sealant, or does it seal on its own?
The male NPT thread is a tapered pipe thread and needs a sealant, either PTFE tape or pipe dope rated for drainage, applied to the male threads before make up. Nothing is included with the fitting. The solder end is a separate operation: clean, flux and sweat it as a normal copper solder joint. Sweat the socket before you thread the fitting into anything with a gasket or plastic on the other side, so the heat doesn't reach it.
7) Which size Nibco 802-C do I need for a 1-1/2 inch trap arm?
The 1-1/2 inch version, MPN E022050. DWV sizing is nominal and straight through on this fitting, so a 1-1/2 inch trap arm takes the 1-1/2 inch adapter: 1-1/2 inch solder cup, 1-1/2 inch male NPT. Step up to the 2 inch (E022150) for a shower, tub or kitchen waste running 2 inch. There is no reducing option, so the tube size and the thread size are always the same on a given piece.
8) Is the Nibco 802-C adapter approved for commercial buildings or just houses?
Both. Nibco lists the 802-C for commercial and residential plumbing, and it's manufactured to ASME B16.23 for cast copper alloy solder joint DWV fittings, which is the standard specifying engineers write into commercial drainage drawings. For a property manager or MRO buyer standardizing across a portfolio, the same fitting covers apartment fixture drains and light commercial waste work.
