1) How do you go from copper DWV pipe to a threaded connection on a 3 inch drain line?
That's what the Nibco 803 DWV adapter does. One end is a solder cup that takes copper DWV tube, the other is a female NPT thread, so you solder onto the copper side and thread the other into male pipe thread. It's made for drain, waste and vent systems and comes in 3 inch and 4 inch pipe sizes.
2) Can I use the Nibco 803 adapter on a pressure water line instead of a drain?
No. The 803 is a DWV fitting, built for drain, waste and vent service, not for pressurized supply. DWV fittings are thinner-walled than pressure fittings and carry no pressure rating. For a supply line you want a pressure-rated cast bronze C x F adapter in the same size, not a DWV one.
3) Is the Nibco 803 female adapter brass or bronze, and will it hold up in a drain line?
Cast bronze, ASTM B584 alloy C84400, and it's dezincification resistant. That alloy choice matters on the threaded end of a DWV run, where dezincification is what eventually cracks a cheap brass adapter. Material and workmanship are per ASME B16.23.
4) What sizes does the Nibco 803 DWV female adapter come in?
Two sizes, 3 inch and 4 inch. The 3 inch is MPN E024950 and the 4 inch is E025100. Both are straight size, meaning the solder cup and the NPT thread are the same nominal size, so a 3 inch adapter goes 3 inch copper to 3 inch female thread with no reduction.
5) Does the Nibco 803 female adapter thread onto plastic male adapters or a trap?
The threaded end is female NPT, so anything with a matching male NPT thread in the same size will mate with it, plastic or metal. What it will not do is glue: the other end is a solder cup for copper DWV tube and has to be soldered, so it's not a copper-to-PVC transition on its own.
