Nibco E030700 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What ends does the Nibco 804 DWV adapter have, and which way does the thread face?
The 804 is a C x M DWV adapter: one end is a solder cup that slips over copper DWV tube, the other is a male NPT thread that screws into a female threaded fitting. Use it where a soldered copper drain line has to land on threaded equipment or a threaded trap adapter. If your threaded part is male, you need the female (C x F) adapter instead, not this one.
2) Can I use the Nibco 804 adapter on a pressure water line, or is it drain only?
It's a DWV fitting, made for drain, waste and vent service in both commercial and residential plumbing. DWV copper is thinner walled than pressure tube, so don't put this in a supply line. For potable or pressure work, use a pressure-rated copper male adapter instead.
3) I need to connect a 2 inch copper DWV stack down to a 1-1/2 inch threaded connection. Which Nibco 804 do I order?
Order the 2 x 1-1/2 inch, MPN E030750. It takes 2 inch copper DWV tube in the solder cup and gives you a 1-1/2 inch male NPT thread. Going the other direction, 1-1/2 inch tube up to a 2 inch thread, is E030550.
4) What sizes does the Nibco 804 DWV male adapter come in, including reducing sizes?
Seven sizes. Straight sizes are 1-1/2 inch (E030500), 2 inch (E030700), 3 inch (E030900) and 4 inch (E031000). Reducing combinations are 1-1/2 x 2 inch (E030550), 1-1/2 x 1-1/4 inch (E030600) and 2 x 1-1/2 inch (E030750). The reducers let you step a drain line up or down at the threaded connection without adding a separate bushing.
5) Is the Nibco 804 adapter cast bronze or wrought copper, and does that matter for a drain line?
Cast bronze, ASTM B584 alloy C84400, and it's dezincification resistant. Cast bronze is what you want on a threaded end because the wall carries the NPT thread; a wrought copper fitting can't be threaded the same way. Material and workmanship follow ASME B16.23.
6) Can I standardize on the Nibco 804 across both apartment units and a commercial building drain?
Yes. The 804 is listed for commercial and residential plumbing, and the size range covers 1-1/4 through 4 inch connections, which spans fixture branch work up to building drain and vent sizes. Same fitting, same alloy, same C x M configuration across all seven sizes, so one part family covers the portfolio.
7) Will a threaded bronze DWV adapter corrode where it meets galvanized or steel drain pipe?
The alloy used here, C84400 cast bronze, is dezincification resistant, which is the failure mode that eats ordinary brass in wet drain service. Joining bronze to ferrous pipe is still a dissimilar-metal connection, so treat it the way you would any bronze-to-steel thread and dope or tape the joint properly.
8) How do I solder the copper end of a Nibco 804 adapter without wrecking the NPT thread?
Standard practice with a cast bronze male adapter is to make the solder joint first, before threading it into anything, and to keep the flame on the cup end and off the thread. Nibco publishes copper fitting installation instructions for this fitting, and their technical data sheets cover the engineering and install detail for the 804.
