Nibco E032100 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What do the Ftg x M ends on the Nibco 804-2 DWV adapter actually connect to?
The 804-2 is a fitting-end (street) solder end on one side and a male NPT thread on the other. The fitting end slips INTO a copper DWV fitting socket rather than over the pipe, so it goes straight into a hub without an extra coupling. The threaded end screws into female NPT, which is how you transition a soldered copper DWV run over to a threaded connection such as a trap adapter or a threaded body.
2) Is the Nibco 804-2 male adapter for drainage or for pressure water lines?
It is a DWV fitting, built for drain, waste and vent service, not for pressurized supply. DWV fittings are thinner-wall and are not rated for water distribution pressure. If you are adapting a pressure copper line to thread, you want a pressure-rated copper male adapter instead, not the 804-2.
3) Does the Nibco 804-2 meet commercial plumbing spec?
Material and workmanship are per ASME B16.23, the standard for cast copper alloy solder-joint DWV fittings, and it is approved for both commercial and residential plumbing systems. Nibco manufactures these copper fittings in an ISO 9001 certified facility. If your drawing calls out B16.23 cast DWV fittings, this meets that callout.
4) What sizes does the Nibco 804-2 DWV male adapter come in?
Two sizes, both straight size (no reducing): 1-1/2 inch, part E032050, and 2 inch, part E032100. Those are the two workhorse DWV sizes, 1-1/2 for lavatory and branch waste and vent, 2 inch for tub, shower and kitchen waste.
5) Will a bronze DWV adapter hold up in a waste line with aggressive water?
The body is cast bronze, ASTM B584 alloy C84400, and it is dezincification resistant, which is the failure mode that cracks and crumbles high-zinc brass fittings in aggressive water. That is the reason a cast bronze male adapter is specified over a plain brass one on commercial drainage work.
6) Do I need a coupling to install the 804-2 into my copper DWV line?
No. Because the solder end is a fitting (street) end, it slides into the socket of another DWV fitting, so you solder it directly into a hub, elbow or tee. A regular C x M adapter would need the pipe or a coupling to receive it; the street end saves you that joint and roughly an inch of makeup.
7) Can I thread the 804-2 into a plastic female fitting?
The threaded side is male NPT, so it will engage any standard female NPT, including plastic DWV female adapters. Use PTFE tape or a thread sealant rated for drainage, and do not overtighten into plastic. Solder the copper joint first and let it cool before making up the thread, so you are not heating a plastic connection.
8) Is copper DWV a reasonable choice for a project chasing sustainability credits?
Copper is reusable and fully recyclable at end of life, along with being durable and low maintenance, which is why it gets specified on sustainable projects where plastic drainage would not count the same way. Nibco publishes installation instructions for their copper fittings covering joint prep and soldering technique.
