Nibco B066850PC – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What do the two ends of the Nibco PC707-3-5-LF drop ear elbow connect to?
One end is a press connection for copper tube and the other is female NPT thread, shown as Prs x F. So the press end goes onto copper tube and gets crimped with a press tool, and the threaded end takes a male threaded nipple or a shower arm/stub out. It is a 90 degree (1/4 bend) fitting.
2) Is this Nibco press elbow safe for potable drinking water lines?
Yes. The PC707 drop ear elbow is a lead-free cast silicon bronze fitting, ASTM B584 C87600, certified to NSF/ANSI/CAN-61 and third party certified to UPC. It is also dezincification resistant, which matters on potable systems with aggressive water.
3) What are the pressure and temperature limits on the Nibco Press System drop ear elbow?
200 psi CWP, with a service range of -20 F to 250 F. That covers potable hot and cold, chilled water, and hydronic heating runs.
4) What sizes does the Nibco PC707 press drop ear elbow come in?
Two copper tube sizes: 1/2 inch (MPN B066850PC) and 3/4 inch (MPN B067000PC).
5) Why use a drop ear elbow instead of a plain press 90?
The drop ear (drop) elbow has mounting ears so it can be screwed to blocking or a bracket inside the wall. That is what holds a shower arm, tub spout nipple, or hose bibb stub rigid so it does not move when someone pulls on it. A plain 90 has no way to anchor to framing.
6) How do I know the press joint on a Nibco fitting actually crimped correctly?
When the joint is pressed properly, a distinct "N" witness mark is visible on the fitting. That is your visual check before closing the wall. Nibco's Press System installation instructions cover tool, jaw and insertion depth requirements.
7) Can this press fitting be buried underground or used on a sprinkler or irrigation line?
Yes on both counts. Nibco Press System fittings are approved for underground installation, and this elbow is listed for automatic sprinkler systems, irrigation, commercial and residential plumbing, heating and HVAC.
8) Does the Nibco press drop ear elbow work on standard type L or M copper tube?
It presses onto nominal copper tube in the size ordered, 1/2 or 3/4 inch. Copper tube of a given nominal size shares the same outside diameter across types K, L and M, so the press end seats the same; wall thickness is what changes. It is a copper tube fitting only, not for PEX or steel pipe.
9) Do I need anything besides the fitting to make the connection?
You need a press tool with the correct jaw for the size, plus the threaded nipple or arm for the female side, and fasteners for the mounting ears. Nibco offers the pressing tools, jaws and chains as part of the Press System range; no solder, flux or torch is involved.
