1) What pipe sizes does the Nibco Chemtrol T45M3-V 3-way ball valve come in?
Six sizes of the T45M3-V, all with female NPT threaded ends: 1/2 inch (MA782A6), 3/4 inch (MA782A8), 1 inch (MA782AA), 1-1/4 inch (MA782AB), 1-1/2 inch (MA782AC) and 2 inch (MA782AD). Nothing above 2 inch is offered in this model.
2) Do I need to cut my pipe or solvent weld to install this Chemtrol 3-way valve?
No. The T45M3-V has female NPT threaded connections on all three ports, so it threads onto male-threaded Schedule 80 PVC nipples or adapters, no cement and no cure time. Being a true union body, the valve and its internals lift out of the line for service without cutting pipe or changing the run length. If your system is already solvent-welded socket, you will need male adapters to land on the threads.
3) What is the pressure and temperature limit on the Nibco T45M3-V PVC valve?
150 psi at 73 degrees F on non-shock water, full port, with a maximum service temperature of 140 degrees F. PVC loses pressure capability as it warms, so a line running near the upper temperature should not be sized against the 150 psi figure. It is a liquid-service valve only: do not use or test it with compressed air or other gases.
4) Can I use the Chemtrol T45M3-V on potable water?
Yes. The valve is listed to NSF/ANSI Standard 14 and NSF/ANSI/CAN 61, and it also meets ASTM F1970. It is flagged lead-free, and Nibco lists it for commercial plumbing, industrial and irrigation service.
5) Is the FKM seal version right for my chemical, or should I get EPDM?
The T45M3-V carries FKM (fluoroelastomer) seats and O-rings, which is the usual pick for acids, hydrocarbons and oxidizers where EPDM would swell. FKM is a poor match for hot water, steam, ketones and amines, so those applications want the EPDM seal version of the same Chemtrol true union valve instead. One hard limit either way: Nibco publishes a plastics incompatibility warning covering POE and similar oils, and PVC bodies are not compatible with those regardless of seal choice.
6) What does a 3-way 3-position multi-port ball valve actually do compared to two separate ball valves?
One T45M3-V replaces a pair of two-way valves in a diverting or mixing tee. Three ports, three handle positions: you route flow from the inlet to either outlet, or set the third position, from a single orange handle instead of coordinating two valves. Fewer joints, one true union assembly to service. If all you need is simple on/off in a straight run, a standard two-way true union ball valve is the cheaper and simpler choice.
7) Can I service or replace this valve without tearing out the piping?
That is the point of the original Chemtrol true union design. The valve and its operating components lift straight out of the line for repair or replacement, with no disruption to the connected piping and no change in laid length, so the same union nuts take the rebuilt or new valve back in. For a maintenance crew on a live process line, that is the difference between a shutdown and a swap.
8) Will this PVC valve hold up in a corrosive industrial line?
The body is PVC Schedule 80, which Nibco rates for excellent corrosion resistance and the highest long-term hydrostatic strength of the major thermoplastics used in piping. It will not rust, scale, pit or corrode, and it is maintenance-free in normal service. Dark grey body, orange handle, so it reads as Schedule 80 on a walkdown.
