The disc and stem sheath are molded over a 316 stainless steel hex shaft to make a one-piece assembly. With this unique dry shaft seal, liquid never contacts the shaft, even at maximum pressure. 1) Will the Nibco Chemtrol W45BF butterfly valve bolt into my ANSI Class 150 flanges?
Yes. The W45BF is a wafer style valve with flanged end connections compatible with ANSI B16.5 Class 150, so it mounts between a standard pair of Class 150 flanges and is held by the flange bolting. Wafer bodies do not have their own bolt holes, so you need the full-length bolt set and both mating flanges in place.
2) Can I use the Chemtrol W45BF PVC butterfly valve as an isolation valve at the end of a line?
No. The W45BF cannot be used as an isolation valve. A wafer body depends on both mating flanges for support and sealing, so it must sit between two flanges in a run. For dead-end isolation or equipment take-out where one side gets removed, use a lugged body or a true block valve instead.
3) What pressure and temperature can the 4 inch and 6 inch Chemtrol PVC butterfly valve handle?
Rated 150 psi at 73 F water non-shock in the 4 inch and 115 psi at 73 F in the 6 inch, with a maximum service temperature of 140 F. PVC loses pressure capability as temperature climbs, so size the duty off the 73 F figure only for ambient water service.
4) Can I use this PVC butterfly valve on compressed air?
No. Do not use or test the Chemtrol W45BF with compressed air or other gases. It is a liquid service valve, and that includes pressure testing, so hydro test only.
5) Should I order the lever handle or the gear operator on a 6 inch PVC butterfly valve?
Both are offered in 4 inch and 6 inch. The lever-lock handle gives quick quarter-turn operation and a locking position, which suits frequent manual service. The gear operator turns a handwheel through gearing, which cuts the operating effort and gives finer throttling control, and is the usual pick on 6 inch lines or where the valve sits in an awkward spot. Lever-lock models are MA366AH (4 inch) and MA366AK (6 inch); gear operator models are MA386AH (4 inch) and MA386AK (6 inch).
6) Is this Chemtrol butterfly valve approved for potable water?
