1) Can the Nibco W45BF-V-NO PVC butterfly valve be used as an isolation valve at the end of a line?
No. The W45BF-V-NO is a wafer style valve and is not to be used as an isolation valve. If you need to shut down and break the line downstream for service, specify a lugged body valve or put a separate shutoff ahead of it. Use this one as an in-line throttling and shutoff valve sandwiched between two flanges.
2) What flanges will this Chemtrol PVC wafer butterfly valve bolt between?
The valve's flanged end connections are compatible with ANSI B16.5 Class 150 bolt patterns, so it drops between standard Class 150 flanges in 4 inch or 6 inch line size. Being a wafer body, it is clamped between the two mating flanges rather than bolted to lugs.
3) What pressure and temperature can a 4 inch PVC Schedule 80 butterfly valve handle?
The 4 inch is rated 150 psi at 73 F on water, non-shock; the 6 inch drops to 115 psi at 73 F. Maximum service temperature either way is 140 F. Ratings fall off as fluid temperature rises, so size the valve to the hottest condition the line actually sees.
4) Can I use this PVC butterfly valve on compressed air?
No. Do not use or test the Chemtrol PVC valve with compressed air or any other gas. That includes pressure testing, hydrostatic test with water only. Thermoplastic valves on gas service can fail energetically.
5) Is this PVC butterfly valve approved for potable water?
The valve is certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 14 and NSF/ANSI/CAN 61, and is listed lead-free. It also meets ASTM F1970. That covers potable water system use as well as commercial plumbing, industrial and irrigation service.
6) Is the FKM seat the right choice, or should I take EPDM?
This valve carries FKM (fluoroelastomer) O-rings and boot, which is the usual pick for aggressive chemical and hydrocarbon-bearing service. EPDM is the alternative where the media is water, dilute acids or alkalis, and is generally the wrong choice around oils. FKM is also where the incompatibility warning on polyol ester (POE) fluids matters, so check the media against the Chemtrol chemical resistance data before committing.
7) Does this valve come with a handle, or do I order the operator separately?
Operation is a specified option on the Chemtrol Model B: bare stem, lever handle, or gear operator. On 6 inch line sizes a gear operator is the usual choice for the torque involved. Confirm which operator configuration you are ordering so the valve arrives ready to mount rather than as a bare stem needing an actuator.
