Sta-Kon J675 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What wire size does the Sta-Kon J675 flag terminal take?
The J675 is sized for 2 AWG conductor. It's a one-size barrel, so smaller wire won't crimp up tight in it and larger won't enter. If you're terminating 2 AWG copper feeders or battery leads, this is the right barrel size.
2) Is this flag terminal insulated, and do I need to sleeve it after crimping?
The J675 is a non-insulated terminal, bare copper with no plastic or nylon sleeve. If the connection sits anywhere it could be touched or could short against adjacent metal, plan on heat shrink or an insulating boot over the barrel, or make the termination inside an enclosure.
3) What voltage is the Sta-Kon J675 rated for, and is it UL recognized?
Rated 600 V, and it carries UL file E9809. That covers standard commercial and industrial branch circuit and feeder work at 600 V or less, including motor and control panel terminations.
4) Can I use the J675 on aluminum wire?
No. The J675 is a copper terminal and is sized for 2 AWG copper. For aluminum conductor you need a terminal specifically listed AL or AL9CU, with the appropriate inhibitor compound. Putting bare copper on aluminum invites galvanic corrosion at the joint.
5) Why use a flag terminal instead of a straight ring or lug on a 2 AWG wire?
A flag terminal puts the tongue at a right angle to the barrel, so the wire runs parallel to the mounting surface instead of straight at the stud. On 2 AWG that matters, because heavy conductor has a large bend radius and won't tolerate being turned in a shallow panel or tight gutter. Use a straight lug where you have room to come in head-on, and the flag where the wire has to lay flat against the bus or run alongside the terminal block.
6) Does the J675 come with the bolt and washers to attach it?
No hardware is included. The terminal is the copper flag only, drilled for 1/2 inch. The bolt, nut, and any belleville or flat washers come from the equipment you're landing on or have to be supplied separately.
7) Where is the Sta-Kon J675 made?
Made in the United States. That matters on federal, state, and institutional jobs carrying Buy American or domestic preference language on electrical materials.
8) What does the J675 look like once installed, finish-wise?
Bare metallic copper, no color coding. Non-insulated terminals in this size don't follow the red/blue/yellow insulation color system you see on 22 to 10 AWG terminals, so identify it by the J675 marking and the 2 AWG barrel rather than by color.
