1) What wire size does the Sta-Kon M673 flag terminal take?
The M673 is sized for 4 AWG conductor. It is a one-size barrel, so it should not be crimped onto smaller stranded wire without the correct step-down or doubled conductor practice. If your run is 6 AWG or 2 AWG you need the matching terminal in the series, not this one.
2) Is the M673 insulated, and do I need to sleeve it?
It is a bare, non-insulated copper terminal with a metallic finish, so there is no factory sleeve on the barrel. On a 600 V circuit you cover the crimp yourself with adhesive-lined heat shrink or tape per the installation requirement. Non-insulated is also what lets you inspect the crimp and use it where an insulated barrel would not clear.
3) Will the M673 work on aluminum conductor?
No. It is a copper terminal with no listing for aluminum, so use it on copper conductor only. Aluminum runs need a terminal rated AL9CU or AL-only with the proper inhibitor compound.
4) Why use a flag terminal instead of a straight ring terminal?
A flag terminal puts the tongue at a right angle to the wire barrel, so the conductor runs parallel to the mounting surface instead of straight at it. That is what you want in a shallow panel, a tight motor terminal box, or behind a contactor where there is no room to bring 4 AWG in perpendicular to a 3/8 inch stud. If you have depth to work with, a standard straight ring tongue lug is the simpler choice.
5) Is this Sta-Kon flag terminal UL listed, and is it made in the USA?
It carries UL file E9809 and is manufactured in the United States, which matters on jobs with listed-component requirements or domestic sourcing language in the spec.
6) How is the M673 attached to the wire?
It is a crimp terminal, not a set-screw or mechanical lug, so the 4 AWG barrel is compressed with a hydraulic or heavy ratchet crimp tool and the matching die for that barrel size. Plan on having that tool on site; a hand pliers crimper for small insulated terminals will not make a sound 4 AWG connection.
