Sta-Kon M675 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What wire size does the Sta-Kon M675 flag terminal take?
The M675 is built for 4 AWG conductor. It is a single-size barrel, so 2 AWG or 6 AWG wire will not crimp correctly in it; match the terminal to the actual conductor, not the breaker size.
2) Is the Sta-Kon M675 rated for 600 volt circuits?
Yes, it carries a 600 V rating and is UL listed under file E9809. That covers the usual commercial and industrial power work, 120/208, 277/480, motor feeders and control panels.
3) Can I use the M675 on aluminum conductor?
No. It is a copper terminal and should be used on copper conductor only. For aluminum feeders you need a terminal or lug specifically marked AL or AL9CU, installed with the compound the maker calls for.
4) Is this flag terminal insulated, and do I need to sleeve it after crimping?
It is a non-insulated copper terminal, bare metal barrel and tongue. On any live 600 V application you finish the termination yourself with heat shrink or tape per your installation practice. The upside of bare is that you can inspect the crimp and the conductor seating before you cover it.
5) Why use a flag terminal instead of a standard straight ring terminal?
A flag terminal puts the tongue at a right angle to the wire barrel, so the conductor runs parallel to the mounting surface instead of straight into it. Electricians reach for it in shallow enclosures, tight motor peckerhead boxes, and crowded panel gutters where a straight 4 AWG lug would need more bend radius than the box allows. If you have room to bring the wire in head-on, a straight ring terminal is the simpler part.
6) Is this terminal made in the USA? We have a Buy American requirement on the job.
Country of origin on the Sta-Kon M675 is the United States, which is what government, school, and transit procurement specs usually want documented for domestic-content clauses.
7) Is the M675 a crimp terminal or a set screw lug?
Crimp. The barrel is compressed onto the conductor with a tool sized for 4 AWG non-insulated terminals, so there is no set screw to retorque later. Use a die set rated for the terminal and conductor size; hand pliers do not produce a listed crimp.
