Sta-Kon G673 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What stud size does the Sta-Kon G673 flag terminal bolt to?
It's a 3/8 inch stud hole, so it lands on a 3/8 inch terminal bolt or stud. If your breaker lug or bus bar is drilled for 1/4 or 5/16, this ring won't be the right one.
2) What is the Sta-Kon G673 terminal made of, and can I use it on aluminum conductor?
The barrel is copper, which makes it a copper-only terminal, use it on copper conductor. Aluminum conductor needs a terminal rated AL or AL9CU to avoid a dissimilar-metal connection at the crimp.
3) Is the Sta-Kon G673 insulated?
No. The G673 is a non-insulated flag terminal, bare metal with no sleeve, so you need to insulate the termination yourself with heat shrink or tape if the application calls for it. The upside is it takes high heat and lets you see the conductor seated in the barrel before you crimp.
4) Why use a flag terminal instead of a straight ring terminal on a 2 AWG lead?
A flag terminal puts the ring tongue at right angles to the barrel, so the conductor runs parallel to the mounting surface instead of straight into it. On 2 AWG that matters, a heavy cable has very little bend radius, and a flag lets you land on a 3/8 inch stud in a shallow enclosure or tight gutter space without kinking the conductor. Use a straight ring terminal where you have room to bring the cable in head-on.
5) Is the Sta-Kon G673 flag terminal UL recognized?
It carries UL file E9809. If your inspector or spec sheet asks for a UL file reference on the termination, that's the number to cite.
6) Can I crimp the Sta-Kon G673 with hand pliers?
No. A 2 AWG copper barrel is a heavy-gauge lug, it needs a proper hydraulic or mechanical compression tool with the correct die for the barrel, not a hand-squeeze crimper intended for insulated 22 to 10 AWG terminals. A poor compression on a conductor this size is a heat problem waiting to happen.
7) Is the Sta-Kon G673 made in the USA?
Yes, country of origin is the United States. That matters on federally funded and Buy American jobs where every electrical component has to be documented.
