Sta-Kon G671 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What wire size does the Sta-Kon G671 flag terminal take?
The G671 is sized for 2 AWG conductor. It is a one-size barrel, so it should not be crimped onto smaller stranded wire to fill the barrel out with a doubled-over conductor; pick the terminal that matches the actual AWG you are landing.
2) Is the Sta-Kon G671 an insulated terminal?
No. The G671 is a non-insulated copper flag terminal, bare metallic with no sleeve. If the connection is inside an enclosure where phase separation matters, you will need to add heat shrink or tape over the barrel yourself.
3) Why use a flag terminal instead of a straight ring terminal on 2 AWG?
A flag terminal puts the tongue at a right angle to the wire barrel, so the conductor runs parallel to the mounting surface instead of straight out from the stud. On 2 AWG that matters: a straight ring terminal needs room ahead of the stud to bend a stiff large conductor, and in a shallow panel or tight gutter there isn't any. The G671 lets you land 2 AWG on a 1/4 inch stud with the cable running off to the side.
4) Can the Sta-Kon G671 be used on aluminum conductor?
No. It is a copper terminal, rated and listed for copper conductor. Landing aluminum in a copper-only barrel creates a dissimilar-metal joint that corrodes and loosens; use an AL/CU rated lug for aluminum feeders.
5) Is the Sta-Kon G671 flag terminal UL listed?
Yes, it carries UL file E9809. That is the detail an institutional or MRO inspector asks for when the termination has to be a listed connector rather than a field-improvised one.
6) Do I need a special crimp tool for the Sta-Kon G671?
A 2 AWG non-insulated terminal needs a heavy-duty crimper, hydraulic or a long-handle mechanical tool with the correct die for the barrel. Hand pliers or an insulated-terminal crimper will not make a compliant crimp on a conductor this size, and the UL listing only holds when the connector is installed with the proper tool and die.
7) Where is the Sta-Kon G671 terminal made?
Manufactured in the United States, which is what government and institutional buyers need confirmed for domestic-content procurement requirements.
