Sta-Kon B459 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What wire sizes does the Sta-Kon B459 ring terminal take?
The B459 is built for No. 2-1/2 through No. 4 Navy wire sizes. If your conductor falls outside that range, the barrel either won't accept the strands or won't crimp tight, so match the wire gauge before you order a reel of these.
2) Is the Sta-Kon B459 terminal insulated or bare?
Bare. The B459 is a non-insulated rectangular tongue ring terminal, so any insulation over the crimp has to come from heat shrink or tape you add yourself. Non-insulated barrels are the usual choice where the lug sits inside a panel or enclosure and you want to inspect the crimp.
3) What stud size does the Sta-Kon B459 ring terminal fit?
It's sized for a No. 6 stud or screw. Land it on a #6 terminal block screw or bolt; a larger stud will not pass through the ring, and on a smaller screw the head may not fully capture the tongue.
4) Should I use a ring terminal like the B459 or a fork/spade terminal on a terminal block?
A ring tongue like the B459 has to come off the stud completely to be removed, which is exactly why it is specified on vibration-prone or safety-critical connections: it cannot back out under a loosening screw. A fork terminal slides out sideways and is faster to service. Pick the ring where the connection must not walk off the stud, and remember the B459 ring is sized for a No. 6 stud.
5) Is the Sta-Kon B459 made in the USA for jobs with domestic sourcing requirements?
Yes, country of origin on the B459 is the United States, which is what a government or institutional buyer working to a domestic-content clause needs on the submittal.
6) What part number do I order for the Sta-Kon rectangular ring terminal for 2-1/2 to 4 Navy wire?
The manufacturer part number is B459 from Sta-Kon. That single number covers the non-insulated rectangular tongue ring terminal for No. 2-1/2 through No. 4 Navy wire with a No. 6 stud hole, so there are no finish or size suffixes to specify.
