1) What pipe sizes does the Oatey 12942 All-Flash No-Calk roof flashing fit?
The 12942 covers vent pipe from 1-1/2 inch up to 3 inch. The patented All-Flash collar design is what makes that range possible, so one part handles the 1-1/2, 2, and 3 inch stacks you typically find on a residential or multi-family roof instead of stocking three separate flashings.
2) What roof pitch can the Oatey 12942 flashing be installed on?
Pitch from 0 to 40 degrees, which is up to a 10/12 roof. Above that the metal base is out of its stated range and you need a steep-pitch flashing instead.
3) Can I use this Oatey flashing on a hot-mopped or built-up roof?
No. The 12942 aluminum base is specifically not for hot-mopped or built-up roofs. On those assemblies use a flashing rated for bituminous application. It works on shingle and comparable sloped roof coverings within the 0-40 degree pitch range.
4) Do I need to caulk the collar on the Oatey No-Calk flashing?
No caulking. The self-sealing collar slides down over the pipe and seals on its own, which is the whole point of the No-Calk design. One caution on the job: keep petroleum based products and paint off the collar, they degrade it. The collar color will not fade.
5) Will the Oatey 12942 work on a Type B gas vent?
Yes, it is approved for Type B installations and rated for 180 degrees F continuous heat. That heat rating is the number to check against your vent application before ordering.
6) How big is the base on the Oatey 12942 roof flashing and how much does it weigh?
The stamped aluminum base measures 11 x 14.5 inches and the unit weighs 0.567 lb. Lay out your shingle courses against that 11 x 14.5 footprint so the upper edge tucks under the course above with proper overlap.
7) Will the base conform to an uneven or slightly irregular roof deck?
It will. The base is rustproof stamped aluminum, soft enough to shape by hand to the deck and the shingle profile, which is why the aluminum version gets specified where a rigid base would not sit flat. The base carries a gray powder coat and the aluminum itself will not rust.
