1) What pipe sizes does the Oatey 12944 All-Flash No-Calk roof flashing fit?
The Oatey 12944 covers vent pipes from 1.5 inch up to 3 inch. The patented All-Flash collar is what makes that range possible on a single part, so one flashing covers 1-1/2, 2, and 3 inch stacks instead of stocking three separate SKUs. The collar is self-sealing and slides down over the pipe, so no caulking is needed at the penetration.
2) What roof pitch can this Oatey brown vent flashing be installed on?
Pitch from 0 to 40 degrees, which is anything up to a 10/12 roof. The stamped aluminum base is meant to be shaped to the deck, so it conforms across that whole range. Above 10/12 you need a different base.
3) Can I use the Oatey 12944 flashing on a flat hot-mopped or built-up roof?
No. The 12944 is not for hot-mopped or built-up roofs, even though the base handles a 0 degree pitch. For a built-up or modified-bitumen assembly you want a flashing designed for hot asphalt application instead of this stamped aluminum base.
4) Will this Oatey flashing work on a Type B gas vent?
Yes. The 12944 is rated for 180 degrees F continuous heat and is approved for Type B installations, which is what separates it from collars only rated for cold DWV stacks.
5) How big is the base on the Oatey 12944 and will it fit under my shingle course?
The base measures 11 x 14.5 inches, so you get room to slide the upper portion under the course above and lap the lower portion over the shingles below. Plan your shingle layout around that footprint before you cut the hole.
6) Will the brown collar on this Oatey roof flashing fade or rust out?
The collar will not fade, and the base is rustproof stamped aluminum with a brown powder coat, so it holds color on a brown or weathered-wood roof. One caution: keep petroleum based products and paint off the collar, they will attack it.
7) Do I need to caulk or seal around the pipe after setting this Oatey No-Calk flashing?
No sealant at the pipe. The No-Calk collar seals itself as it slides down over the vent, which is the whole point of the design. Fasten and weather-lap the base per normal shingle practice; the collar handles the penetration.
