OATEY 11872 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Oatey All-Flash No-Calk roof flashing need caulking around the pipe?
No caulk needed. The All-Flash No-Calk flashing uses a self-sealing collar that slides down over the vent pipe and seals against it, so there is no bead of sealant to apply or maintain at the pipe penetration.
2) What roof pitch can the Oatey 11872 vent flashing be installed on?
It is made for pitches from 0 to 40 degrees, which covers everything from a dead-flat deck up to roughly a 10:12 slope. Steeper than 40 degrees and this base is outside its rated range.
3) Can I use this Oatey flashing on a hot-mopped or built-up roof?
No. The 11872 is specifically not for hot-mopped or built-up roofs. It is rated for 180 degrees F continuous heat and approved for Type B installations, but the torch and hot asphalt work on a built-up system calls for a different flashing.
4) Can the brown base on this Oatey roof flashing be painted to match my shingles?
Don't paint it. Oatey calls out no petroleum based products and no paint on the flashing collar or the plastic base, since both attack the sealing material. The base is already finished brown so it blends with brown and earth-tone roofs as supplied.
5) Is the base on the Oatey 11872 flashing metal or plastic?
The base is galvanized steel in 28 gauge, finished brown. Oatey's own install note also warns against paint and petroleum products on the plastic base and collar, so the sealing collar component is not steel. For a property manager replacing a cracked all-plastic flashing, the galvanized steel base is the heavier-duty option.
6) How do I order the right Oatey All-Flash brown galvanized roof flashing?
Order it by manufacturer part number 11872 (UPC 038753118727). That single number gets you the brown galvanized steel All-Flash No-Calk base; there are no finish or size options to specify on top of it.
7) How heavy is the Oatey 11872 roof flashing for carrying a load up to the roof?
About 0.9 lb each, so a roofer can carry a stack of them up a ladder in one trip. Shipping volume runs 0.211, useful if you are palletizing a multi-building re-roof order.
