1) What roof pitch can this No-Calk vent flashing be used on?
Pitch up to 40 degrees. Above that you need a steep-pitch or adjustable flashing, not this one.
2) Can I use the Oatey 11873 on a hot-mopped or built-up roof?
No. The 11873 is not for hot-mopped or built-up roofs. For those assemblies use a flashing made for bitumen application. The 11873 is intended for shingle or similar sloped roof coverings where the base is nailed in and shingled over.
3) How big is the base on the Oatey 11873, and will it tuck under my shingle courses?
The stamped steel base measures 11 x 14.5 inches, which gives you enough flange to nail off on the up-slope side and lap the next shingle course over it. Lay out your opening against those dimensions before you cut the deck penetration.
4) Can I paint the Oatey 11873 flashing to match my roof?
The steel base already comes black, and you should not put paint or any petroleum based product on the rubber collar. Those products break the rubber down and you lose the seal at the stack.
5) Is this Oatey flashing approved for a Type B gas vent?
Yes, the 11873 is approved for Type B installations as well as standard DWV vent stacks in the 1.5 to 3 inch range.
6) Will the galvanized base on this Oatey flashing rust out on a dark roof?
The base is 29 gauge stamped galvanized steel with a black painted finish, so it resists rust and blends with dark shingles. The sealing collar is non-fading rubber.
