1) What pipe sizes does the Oatey 11874 No-Calk roof flashing fit?
The 11874 All-Flash No-Calk flashing covers DWV vent pipe from 1.5 inch up to 3 inch. The rubber collar slides down over the stack and seals against it, so one part handles the common 1-1/2, 2 and 3 inch vent sizes without caulking the penetration.
2) Can I use this Oatey flashing on a steep pitched roof?
It is rated for roof pitch up to 40 degrees. Above that the base will not lie flat against the deck and you need a pitched or adjustable flashing instead.
3) Will the Oatey 11874 work on a flat built-up or hot-mopped roof?
No. The 11874 is not for hot-mopped or built-up roofs. It is approved for Type B installations, which covers standard shingle and comparable sloped roofing where the base is woven into the courses. For a hot-mopped or tar-and-gravel assembly, use a flashing made for that system.
4) How big is the base on the Oatey 11874 vent flashing, and will it fit under my shingle courses?
The stamped base measures 11 by 14.5 inches, so you have enough flange on all four sides to slip it under the upper courses and lap it over the lower ones in the normal shingle weave. Lay out your penetration with that footprint in mind before cutting.
5) What is this Oatey roof flashing made of, and will it rust out?
The base is stamped 29 gauge galvanized steel, described as rust-proof, with a gray powder coated finish over it. The sealing collar is a non-fading rubber, so it does not chalk out like an untreated collar would.
6) Can I paint the Oatey No-Calk flashing to match my roof color?
Do not put paint or any petroleum based product on the rubber collar; it degrades the seal. The base already comes gray powder coated, which is what most crews leave as is.
7) Do I need to caulk around the vent pipe after installing this flashing?
No. The No-Calk design relies on the rubber collar compressing against the stack to make the seal, which is the point of the product. Sealant on the collar, particularly petroleum based sealant, is specifically ruled out.
