1) Will the Oatey 11853 No-Calk flashing work on my 2 inch vent pipe?
Yes, the 11853 is the 2 inch No-Calk flashing. The self-sealing collar slides down over the pipe and seals against it with no caulk, and Oatey's patented All-Flash collar design means the same collar will take more than one pipe size, so a slightly off nominal stack still seals.
2) Can I use the Oatey 11853 flashing on a flat hot-mopped or built-up roof?
No. Oatey states the No-Calk flashing is not for hot-mopped or built-up roofs, even though the base will lay at 0 degrees pitch. On a built-up or torch-down assembly the hot asphalt and the roofing solvents attack the plastic collar. Use a flashing rated for the membrane you have.
3) Can the Oatey No-Calk flashing be used on a Type B gas vent?
Yes, it is approved for Type B installations and rated for 180 degrees F continuous heat. That covers B-vent as well as ordinary DWV stacks. For anything running hotter than 180 F continuous, this is the wrong flashing.
4) Is the Oatey 2 in. No-Calk flashing base steel or plastic, and what gauge?
The base is 28 gauge galvanized steel with a plastic self-sealing collar. That is the standard shingle-roof combination: the metal base weaves into the courses and takes the fasteners, while the collar does the sealing at the pipe. Whole unit runs about 0.65 pounds, so it is a one-hand carry up the ladder.
5) Can I paint the Oatey No-Calk flashing collar to match my roof?
Don't. Oatey says no petroleum based products and no paint on the flashing collar or the plastic base, since those break the material down and you get a leak at the pipe. The collar is made not to fade, so it holds its appearance without paint. That also rules out wiping it with roof cement or asphalt-based sealer during install.
6) How much roof deck does the Oatey 11853 flashing cover around the pipe?
The base is 9 x 12.5 inches. Set it with the longer dimension running up the slope so the upper portion tucks under the course above and the lower portion laps over the shingles below. If your penetration sits closer to a valley, hip, or wall than that footprint allows, you need to plan the shingle weave before you cut the hole.
7) Does the Oatey 11853 No-Calk flashing need caulk or sealant at the pipe?
No sealant at the pipe. The collar is self-sealing and slides over the stack under its own tension, which is the whole point of the No-Calk design, and there is nothing to re-caulk on a service call in five years. Fasten the metal base through the deck and shingle over it normally.
