1) What size pipe does the Oatey 14135 rain collar fit?
The Oatey 14135 is the 2 inch rain collar. It slides down over a 2 inch vent or flue pipe and sits above the flashing as a water shield. If your stack is a different size, you need a different collar size, not this one.
2) Do I need to caulk the Oatey 14135 rain collar when I install it?
No caulking is needed. The rubber collar slides down the pipe and seals against it by itself, so the install is a slip-on with no sealant step. Keep petroleum based products off it, they degrade the rubber.
3) Can this rain collar be used on a Type B gas vent?
Yes. The 14135 collar is approved for Type B installations and is rated for 180 degrees F continuous heat, so it handles the surface temperature of a B vent pipe.
4) Will an Oatey rain collar work on a hot-mopped or built-up roof?
No. The 14135 rubber collar is not for hot-mopped or built-up roofs. On those assemblies the hot asphalt and the petroleum content will attack the rubber, so specify a collar and flashing rated for that roof type instead.
5) Does the Oatey 14135 replace the roof flashing, or do I still need one?
It is a collar, not a flashing. The 14135 slides down over the pipe and acts as a protective water shield at the penetration, so you still need the roof flashing or boot under it that ties into the roofing. Order the collar as a companion piece, not a substitute.
6) Will a black rubber rain collar fade or chalk out after a few seasons in the sun?
The collar material is non-fading, and it is supplied in black. For a property manager doing a roof full of vent penetrations, that means the collars keep a uniform look rather than going grey at different rates.
